AT&T Honored as a 2009 Best Diversity Company by the Readers of Diversity/Careers Magazine

AT&T Ranks at the Top for its Support for Minorities and Women and its World-Class Supplier Diversity Practices

DALLAS, June 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T* today announced that it has been recognized by the readers of Diversity/Careers in Engineering & Information Technology as a 2009 Best Diversity Company. In this annual Best Diversity Practices survey, one hundred companies, government agencies, and other organizations employing technical professionals were honored from a field of hundreds of corporations and agencies.

During March and April 2009, Diversity/Careers readers and website visitors were offered a list of 600 companies to choose from and were asked to make their selection based on the corporations' support of minorities, attention to work/life balance, and commitment to supplier diversity. This year, readers were also encouraged to add or subtract companies based on their experiences and perceptions.

"For AT&T, increasing contracting opportunities for minority-owned businesses and offering an inclusive work environment for all are our top priorities," said Cindy Brinkley, AT&T chief diversity officer. "We're honored that Diversity/Careers readers have once again recognized us as an employer of choice. Our commitment to diversity is part of the way we choose to do business because we understand it's the only way we can deliver the best products and services."

This is the third straight year AT&T has been included on this list; it has been included in the overall list every year since its inception three years ago. AT&T, along with the other organizations that readers ranked at the top for their support for minorities and women, their attention to work/life balance and their commitment to supplier diversity, will be recognized in Diversity/Careers' June/July issue as 2009 Best Diversity Companies.

This year's Best Diversity Company list was selected with help from Diversity/Careers readers who selected 100 companies in sectors such as aerospace, healthcare, telecom, automotive, manufacturing, among others. This award is based on readers' perceptions formed by their own experiences, conversations with others, and current events. This list is produced annually by Diversity/Careers magazine, a bi-monthly publication intended to serve African-American, Hispanic, Asian American, and Native American engineering and IT professionals, as well as people with disabilities and members of other diversity groups. Readers turn to Diversity/Careers and its companion website, www.diversitycareers.com, for information on a marquee list of corporations, government agencies and NGOs seeking to recruit seasoned professionals and recent college graduates.
