Highwinds and Groovy Gecko Partner to Fuel Growth of Ten Alps Digital

Groovy Gecko Delivers Network Stability, Scalability and Efficiency to Ten Alps with the Highwinds Content Delivery Network, Enabling Growth in Ten Alps' Online Video and WebTV Business

WINTER PARK, Fla., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Highwinds Network Group, Inc., a multiplatform IP services and content distribution provider, today announced that its partnership with Groovy Gecko, a leading provider of European streaming and webcasting services, is contributing to the growth of Ten Alps Digital's video business. Ten Alps is one of the UK's leading multiplatform producers of factual online television and video, radio programming, and digital advertising for specialist audiences. More than 90 percent of the hosted videos developed for its corporate and public sector clients are streamed on-demand over Highwinds' content delivery network (CDN). Ten Alps selected Groovy Gecko, a Highwinds reseller, as its content delivery partner due to its vast experience and technical ability to deliver complex, diverse types of content globally.

"The network limitations of our old hosting provider, who was not a top-tier CDN, stifled our growth. We had serious scalability issues and unreliable upload speeds that limited the amount of rich media content we could serve and impacted our ability to deliver all content promptly and consistently. At the same time, we were poised for a significant spike in sales and needed to be able to support the content delivery needs of our growing customer base," said Jamal Dayes, head of digital at Ten Alps. "Working with Groovy Gecko, and through their close partnership with Highwinds, we have been able to accommodate all customer needs and grow our business."

Ten Alps, with its various divisions and staff of more than 500, produces content for television, online and print. While its presence remains strong in contract print publishing and traditional broadcasting, online video and WebTV are the company's fastest-growing business segments due to the proliferation of the Internet, the convergence of media and ad revenues, and the cost-effectiveness of online streaming and advertising. Ten Alps is helping an increasing number of clients move content online, using web-exclusive content and specialty, targeted multimedia to interact with their customers. Groovy Gecko is backing Ten Alps' customer content with top-tier CDN technologies and services through the Highwinds CDN. The move from a six-point network to the global Highwinds CDN has provided Ten Alps with network stability, scalability, improved efficiency, and the ability to stream all hosted content reliably to global audiences.

Optometry Today TV, for example, formed by the Association of Optometrists, offers specialist educational CPD videos for opticians and dispensing opticians to study as part of their ongoing professional development. Ten Alps works closely with the Association of Optometrists to produce and deliver the digital programming to opticians - rich media that is streamed over the Highwinds CDN and supported by Groovy Gecko. Other customers include Teachers TV, the BBC, Kent TV and Vets TV, as well as many other traditional broadcasters, publishers, local governments, documentary producers, bloggers and corporate content owners.

"We assessed Ten Alps' requirements, future growth, feature set and migration timeframes, and were pleased to recommend Highwinds as a streamlined and cost-effective means to deliver their customers' content online," said Craig Moehl, managing director of Groovy Gecko. "As an established leader in streaming and webcasting solutions in the UK, we have had the choice to work with various CDNs over the past ten years, and we believe that the Highwinds CDN will remain the ideal fit for Ten Alps' digital media business as it continues to grow."
