Huaneng Power International, Inc. Announces Power Generation in the First Half Year of 2009

BEIJING, July 9 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Huaneng Power International, Inc. (the "Company") (NYSE: HNP; HKEx: 902; SSE: 600011) today announced its power generation in the first half year of 2009.

According to the Company's preliminary statistics, as of June 30, 2009, the Company's total domestic power generation on consolidated basis amounted to 86.107 billion kWh, representing a decrease of 5.84% over the same period in 2008.

The decrease in the Company's power generation was mainly due to the following reasons:

    1. Under the impact of the international financial crisis, the power
       demand in the domestic market declined.
    2. The new generating units are put into operation continuously, thus
       leading to the decline in the average utilization hours of power
       generation in the majority of the regions and a negative growth in the
       Company's power generation.

As of June 30, 2009, the power generation of Tuas Power Ltd. in Singapore amounted to 4.723 billion kWh, representing a decrease of 6.32% over the same period of the previous year.

Huaneng Power International, Inc. wholly owns 17 operating power plants, and has controlling interests in 13 operating power companies and minority interests in 5 operating power companies in the PRC. The Company's power plants are extensively located in 12 provinces and 2 provincial-level municipalities. In addition, the Company wholly owns one operating power company in Singapore.
