TUCSON, Ariz., Nov. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Learning A-Z, a business unit of Voyager Learning Company (OTC: VLCY), announced today that it sent 150 copies of its new leveled reader "Hugs for Daddy" to the 172nd Mountain Infantry Company, Bravo Company, based in Brewer, ME. The men in this unit have a total of 135 children, all of whom will receive a copy of the book during a deployment ceremony on December 7. The book, written by the wife of a real-life soldier, talks personally and emotionally about what it's like for her daughter, Hannah, as she tries to stay connected with her father during his military tour in Iraq. The 172nd Mountain Infantry Company will be serving a mission in Afghanistan.

The donation to the 172nd Mountain Infantry Company kicks off Learning A-Z's holiday campaign to distribute copies of the book to families at 10 of the largest military bases in the country, including: Ft. Hood, TX; Naval Station Norfolk, VA; Ft. Bragg, NC; Marine Corps Base Camp, Lejeune, NC; Ft. Campbell, KY; Ft. Lewis, WA; Eglin Air Force Base, FL; Naval Air Station, FL; Naval Weapons Station, SC; and Ft. Jackson, SC. In addition, the book has also been made available as a free PDF download for students, teachers, and parents at http://www.readinga-z.com.

"We all see the headlines detailing the difficult and dangerous work our troops are doing each day in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world. What we don't often see are the personal stories, the stories behind the headlines," said Bob Holl, publisher and co-founder of Learning A-Z. "Hugs for Daddy is a true story about how one military family stayed connected during a difficult time. It's a small gesture, but we hope providing the book to a wider audience will help other military families do the same."
