This latest recognition comes as the next milestone in CoLab’s mission to revolutionize the future of engineering collaboration with AI
CoLab announces today that it has achieved Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP®) Authorization at the High impact level for its SaaS (Software as a Service) platform. At the time of writing, the company is one of only 81 SaaS applications to receive this designation, building on its position as an established partner to the aerospace and defense industries.
CoLab works with engineering teams seeking to increase program speed, without sacrificing cost or quality. “Every engineering program consists of thousands of design decisions. Right now, engineers spend hours hunting for the information to justify even a single design decision,” explains Adam Keating, Co-founder and CEO. “This is what slows programs down and incentivizes people to cut corners.”
Nowhere is this more true than in aerospace and defense, where engineering programs span years – or decades – and a single mistake can cost millions of dollars. FedRAMP High Authorization means CoLab can be used on U.S. federal and defense programs requiring the highest level of cloud security assurance for unclassified data, including Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Several of CoLab's U.S. customers, who first adopted the platform for commercial programs, are now expanding their use to defense.
“Aerospace and defense engineering leaders know how easy it can be for a design error to slip through the cracks and cause major financial or reputational damage,” says Keating. “There has always been demand for our design review platform – and recently our new AI capabilities – within these programs. Now that we’ve achieved this authorization milestone, we’re excited to start working with new partners.”
With CoLab, engineering teams share 3D CAD and 2D drawings and invite subject matter experts to create design comments. These annotations are automatically tracked, forming a repository of design rationale and lessons learned. Meanwhile, CoLab brings in product data and knowledge data from sources like PLM, ERP, and company standards and guidelines. Then, the software uses machine learning to detect similarities between current and historical programs, so AI can surface company knowledge that helps engineers make better design decisions in real time.
FedRAMP is a U.S. government-wide program that provides a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring of commercial cloud services used by federal agencies. The High baseline applies to systems where a security breach could have a severe or catastrophic impact on government operations, assets, or individuals, and is built on the NIST SP 800-53 control set.
CoLab is now listed in the FedRAMP Marketplace, following assessment by Schellman and made possible through trusted end-to-end program partner RISCPoint. For more information about CoLab, please visit colabsoftware.com.
