Hosted.com says its WordPress hosting environment is ready for WordPress 7.0, which brings AI architecture, collaboration, editor changes, and new requirements.

-- Hosted.com reports that it has prepared its WordPress Hosting environment for WordPress 7.0 ahead of the core software upcoming release. The update applies across the company’s hosting services and is intended to support WordPress website owners in preparing for the next major WordPress version.

The timing is notable because WordPress 7.0, as the first major release of 2026 due on May 20th at the time of writing, is not being framed as a traditional update. Instead, the development team has focused on advancing Phase 3 of the Gutenberg Project, adding post collaboration features, responsive styling controls, expanded block editing tools, and laying the foundational architecture for consistent AI tool integrations.

A large part of the attention around the announcement of WordPress 7.0 has centered on the Google Docs-style collaboration. WordPress development updates describe real-time collaboration as a flagship feature of the release, building on workarounds and outdated editorial workflows.

The release was also delayed allowing more time to address testing feedback on real-time collaboration and architectural changes, underscoring the scale of the release and the importance of careful deployment planning.

WordPress 7.0 is also expected to affect how websites and content are edited and managed. This includes a long-awaited, cleaner admin dashboard experience, improvements to the editor, new and updated block features, and the addition of AI integration capabilities.

These changes may affect themes, plugins, and default styling behavior. In practical terms, the company said this makes pre-update testing even more important for sites that depend on multiple plugins, complex themes, or custom code and scripts.

“WordPress 7.0 is the kind of release that requires attention not just to software compatibility, but to the full update process around it,” said Wayne Diamond, CEO of Hosted.com. “Hosted.com has prepared its platform to support that process through testing environments, backups, monitoring, and the stability needed during major version changes.”

Rather than focusing only on the release itself, Hosted.com said preparation for WordPress 7.0 also involves the systems used during a core software upgrade. That includes how websites are tested, how recovery is handled if something goes wrong, and how performance and security are monitored before and after an update is applied.

According to the company, its WordPress Hosting setup includes staging environments that allow changes to be reviewed before publishing them to a live website, thus reducing the risk of broken layouts, lost functionality, or downtime.

Hosted.com also said backup management remains central to a safe switch. If a major WordPress update causes conflicts or performance issues, having current backups makes it easier and quicker to restore a previous working version.

This is very important during major version changes, when compatibility issues may not appear until after testing or deployment has started. Hosted.com’s own WordPress self-help resources already identify automatic backups, staging, and update management as important safeguards ahead of even minor updates.

Monitoring and security were also essential parts of helping maintain site stability by identifying unusual behavior, performance changes, or other issues that may appear during an update.

In that context, being ready to upgrade is not just about infrastructure but also about the processes and tasks involved in maintaining a WordPress site, as the platform introduces changes to editing and site admin along with the new collaboration features and AI architecture.

Following the above, the company emphasizes that these changes increase the need for hosting environments that help site owners manage updates in a more controlled, consistent way.

Hosted.com said the main areas website owners may need to review before doing any updates; include theme and plugin compatibilities, backup status, staging use, and any PHP requirements that may be relevant to the release.

The company said the latest announcement shows that there are requirements across the Web Hosting ecosystem that need to be met by providers, especially as major releases continue to shape how websites are maintained, supported, and updated.
