By: PRLog
We are very thankful for the efforts of David Bostch (at Cornell) as he was the OpenAFS organization administrator who helped on that part of the effort. We also thank the people who submitted proposals and helped review proposals, that was a lot of work. Three engineers participated in the Google Summer of Code 2025 as mentors for projects for the OpenAFS open-source project. Our team mentored two bright students as they enhanced the capabilities of the OpenAFS project.

Sept. 30, 2025 - PRLog -- Our congratulations go to contributor #1 Sushil Pandey for completing the goals for the project titled "Implementing Multi-page Folio Support in OpenAFS Linux Kernel Module".  Our SNA staff member Cheyenne Willis and Sushil conducted a research project to investigate what was needed to implement multi-page folio support and did some preliminary work in that area.  They uncovered what needs to be done in the future as we move to migrate to the new kernel structures.

Technologies and skills needed included: OpenAFS, C, Linux kernel, memory management, Folio API, Distributed File Systems, VFS, Kernel Module Development. Topical areas included operating systems, systems programming, distributed computing, compatibility, performance optimization, Linux kernel, File Systems, Memory Management.

And to contributor #2 Tejas Sonawane: for completing the goals for the project titled "Develop a GNOME Shell Extension for OpenAFS" This project aims to develop a GNOME Shell extension that provides a user-friendly graphical interface for managing the OpenAFS client on Linux desktops. Our SNA staff member and OpenAFS maintainer Michael Meffie was the mentor for this important project which required technologies and skills including JavaScript, GJS, GNOME Shell, OpenAFS, Linux. Topic areas include Desktop Environment, User Interface, File Systems, Open Source, Linux. This preliminary interface is currently in testing and development on GNOME on Ubuntu.
