Intermountain Health LDS Hospital and Select Health team up with Salt Lake Downtown Farmers Market to boost community health with free screenings and wellness activities

(PRUnderground) June 13th, 2025

Intermountain Health and Select Health are teaming up with the Salt Lake City Downtown Farmers Market to make this summer season a special one.

This year is the 34th year of the Downtown Farmers Market, which kicks off the 2025 season on Saturday, June 14, and runs every Saturday through October from 8 am to 2 pm at Pioneer Park in downtown Salt Lake City. It has become a beloved summer tradition for residents and visitors in Utah’s capital city.

The Downtown Farmers Market is one of the largest Farmers Markets in the United States and is organized by Urban Food Connections of Utah. It features hundreds of vendors and local farmers and draws thousands of visitors each week to celebrate local food, agriculture, and culture in the heart of Salt Lake City.

As part of the weekly event, Intermountain LDS Hospital and Select Health are partnering with the Downtown Farmers Market to enhance community health and wellness through education, free screenings, and prevention.

Intermountain LDS Hospital and Select Health are hosting a health-focused booth every second Saturday throughout the summer, offering free wellness screenings, connections with hospital services, and wellness resources to enhance the health of marketgoers. Visitors can engage with caregivers at the booth with fun activities for kids, take home healthy recipes using fresh market produce, and access information about local healthcare services.

“Our participation in the Downtown Farmers Market reflects our commitment to helping residents live the healthiest lives possible,” said Heather Wall, president of Intermountain LDS Hospital. “We want to meet people where they are to help them enhance their health and wellness, and the market is a perfect place to share resources, answer questions, and help individuals and families take steps toward better health.”

Over the years, the Downtown Farmers Market has nurtured hundreds of vendors and launched dozens of brick-and-mortar businesses throughout the community.

Wall said the Downtown Farmers Market is a perfect opportunity to enjoy fresh and healthy local produce, support local farmers and vendors, and learn more about health and wellness for individuals and families.

“We will be highlighting different recipes that the community can make from season-available foods throughout the remainder of the summer,” said Wall. “Intermountain Health and Select Health are proud to support this community-driven initiative for more than 15 years, which aligns with our mission to help people live the healthiest lives possible.”

This year’s Downtown Farmers Market will feature fresh local produce, including locally-grown arugula, basil, beet greens, beets, bok choy, chard, cherry tomatoes, chives, cilantro, collards, dill, living butterhead lettuce, microgreens, mustard greens, oregano, parsley, peas, pea shoots, radishes, rainbow chard, rhubarb, spring salad mix, strawberries, sun shoots, thyme, tomatoes, and turnips.

Parking for the Farmers Market includes two-hour free street parking, as well as free parking at The Gateway. Free bike valet is available on the east side of the market at Pioneer Park. A GREENBike docking station is located nearby in front of Caputo’s. People can also ride TRAX to the Market. There are two TRAX stops close to The Gateway (Arena and Planetarium).
