Pathwork's AI automates commissions for life and annuity insurance brokerages, turning reconciliation from a cost center into a function that pays for itself.
San Francisco, CA (PRUnderground) October 21st, 2026

Pathwork, the AI platform built for life and annuity insurance distribution, today launched Commissions Engine, an autonomous commissions platform for brokerages. Commissions Engine uses a firm's own policy data and commission agreements to retrieve and process carrier statements, reconcile payments, calculate producer compensation, and surface missing revenue, with the team reviewing exceptions instead of working every transaction.
The launch extends Pathwork's platform, already used by more than 100 brokerages for underwriting and casework, into one of the most manual and error-prone functions in insurance distribution. Commissions Engine is available now through an early access program. Highland Capital Brokerage and Pickett Group Inc. are among the first brokerages running on the platform.
Manual Commission Work Is Costing Brokerages More Than Time
Every day, commission teams chase statements across dozens of carrier portals, key line items by hand, maintain spreadsheets and macros, and update producer schedules. Missed and underpaid commissions slip into the backlog. Month-end close drags. And when the person who built the spreadsheet leaves, the knowledge leaves with them. Commissions Engine turns that work into an ongoing, autonomous workflow: statements are processed as they post, every payment is checked against what's owed, and the team reviews a short list of exceptions instead of working every transaction.
An Autonomous Workflow From Expected Commission to Reconciled Payment
Commissions Engine is built to:
• Retrieve carrier statements as they post, read them across formats, and validate extracted line items against totals. No chasing downloads or keying data.
• Calculate what each carrier should pay and recompute nightly, surfacing missing payments and underpayments, even when no corresponding payment appears on a statement.
• Reconcile every payment against what the brokerage is owed and flag discrepancies for review, so the team resolves exceptions instead of matching transactions by hand.
• Calculate producer compensation by applying the brokerage's schedules, hierarchies, splits, and overrides, reducing corrections and making payment questions easy to answer.
• Forecast expected revenue by policy and payout date, including first-year, renewal, and trail commissions, so leaders can plan hiring, advances, and bonuses with a clearer view of cash flow.
• Find the next sale in the existing book, from annuities nearing maturity or the end of a surrender period to term conversion windows, giving producers a warm starting point for their next conversation.
"We place a thousand policies a year, and for two decades I eyeballed what I could and let the rest go," said Jeremy Pickett, Vice President at Pickett Group Inc. "Pathwork reconciles every row on every statement and tells me what's right, what's wrong, and what's still owed. On day one it flagged an underpayment I never would have found."
Built for the Full Complexity of a Brokerage
Every carrier agreement, compensation structure, and producer relationship comes with its own rules. Commissions Engine models premium types, bonuses, target and excess, and first-year and renewal compensation across more than 7,000 life, long-term care, disability, and annuity products from more than 250 carriers. The result is more business through the same team, with fewer corrections and faster answers for producers.
"Bonuses, IMO payouts, overrides, dozens of special deals--our commissions are as complicated as they get," said Austin Hodge, Director of Accounts Receivable at Highland Capital Brokerage. "Pathwork handles all of it. The workarounds we relied on to keep everything straight are gone, and we're taking on more business without adding complexity for our team."
The platform integrates with Salesforce, AgencyIntegrator, SmartOffice, and OneHQ, and brings casework and commissions together on one platform with shared information. Processing stays in-house: no offshore team handles statements or carrier logins.
"Commissions Engine is built to do work autonomously," said Ian Levinsky, CEO of Pathwork. "It also changes what a commissions team is for: instead of reconciling every transaction by hand, the team puts its time into growing the business. It's the same platform and insurance expertise brokerages already trust for underwriting, applied to a problem that has run on spreadsheets for decades."
