Open-source API client reaches 4 million developers as API World recognizes its local-first, Git-native architecture built for the agent era

Bruno, the open-source API client built around a local-first, file-based architecture, today announced it has surpassed 4 million developers worldwide and has been named the winner of the API World 2026 Award for Best in API Developer Experience. The award recognizes Bruno's approach to API development, giving developers complete ownership of their API workflows while enabling Git-native collaboration and agent-native development.

Unlike traditional API platforms that store collections in proprietary cloud workspaces, Bruno stores API collections as plain text files. This allows developers to version API collections alongside source code, collaborate using existing Git workflows, and enables AI coding assistants and autonomous agents to inspect, modify, and execute API workflows directly from the repository.

The API World Awards recognize excellence across the API industry, with winners selected by an independent panel of judges.

"API collections should be files," said Ryan Reynolds, COO and Co-founder of Bruno. "That simple idea has guided every product decision we've made. When API collections become ordinary files, developers own their work, teams collaborate naturally with Git, and AI agents can work with API workflows using the same tools they use for source code."

"We're incredibly grateful to our community of users and contributors who have helped shape Bruno from day one," Reynolds added. "Every bug report, pull request, feature request, and conversation has made the product better. This recognition belongs to the community as much as it does to our team."
