Templeton Emerging Markets Income Fund (“TEI”) Announces Change to Managed Distribution Plan

TEMPLETON EMERGING MARKETS INCOME FUND (NYSE: TEI) (the “Fund”), a closed-end investment company managed by Templeton Asset Management Ltd. (“TAML”), announced today that its Board has implemented a new managed distribution plan where the Fund will distribute a level distribution amount to shareholders. The Fund intends to distribute $0.0475 per share monthly which is an annualized distribution rate of 10.10% based on the NAV as of 11/30/2023. The new managed distribution plan will take effect with the distribution that will be payable on January 31, 2024, to shareholders of record on January 19, 2024 (Ex-dividend Date: January 18, 2024). Previously, the Fund’s monthly distribution was calculated at an annualized rate of 10% based on the prior month’s average net asset value (NAV). The Board believes that paying a level distribution provides greater consistency to investors and may help how the Fund trades relative to its NAV. The Fund’s distribution level may be changed by the Board of Trustees in the future.

Inflation and rapid fluctuations in inflation and interest rates have had, and may continue to have, negative effects on the economy and securities markets of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In addition, investments in Taiwan could be adversely affected by its political and economic relationship with China. Unlike open-end funds (mutual funds), closed-end funds are not continuously offered. Closed-end funds trade on the secondary market through a national stock exchange at a price which may be above (a premium), but is often below (a discount to) the net asset value (NAV) of the fund's portfolio. Unlike a mutual fund, the market price for a closed-end fund is based on supply and demand, not the fund's NAV.
