Northeastern, PA - Local chiropractor and U.S. Army Veteran Dr. Larry Wood, owner of ScoliFix and Community Chiropractic Center serving northeastern Pennsylvania has renewed his agreement with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) through the Optum Community Care Network (CCN). This renewed partnership enables Dr. Wood to continue providing high-quality chiropractic care for Veterans in the Wilkes-Barre Scranton region, Lehigh Valley (Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton) area, and Pocono Mountain regions of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Wood, a former Infantry Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, leads both ScoliFix and Community Chiropractic Center - two well-established clinics known for non-surgical scoliosis correction, spinal rehabilitation, and advanced chiropractic methods. Through the VA Optum Program, he now continues serving fellow Veterans as part of the VA’s Community Care Network for Region 1, managed by Optum.
“As a Veteran myself, I know how important accessible healthcare is after military service,” said Dr. Wood. “The VA Community Care Network ensures Veterans don’t have to travel long distances or wait months for care. I’m proud to continue helping Veterans right here in Northeastern Pennsylvania - from the Poconos to the Lehigh Valley.”
Expanding Local Access to Veteran Chiropractic Care
The VA Community Care Network (CCN), administered by Optum, connects Veterans with approved community-based healthcare providers when VA hospitals cannot provide care locally or in a timely manner. Veterans who live more than 60 miles from the nearest VA facility - or who need specialized services not available there - can be referred to in-network providers like Dr. Larry Wood.
In Northeastern Pennsylvania, this includes Veterans living in:
- Wilkes-Barre and Scranton (Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties)
- Allentown and the Lehigh Valley area
- Monroe County and the Pocono Mountains region
Through the VA Optum Program, eligible Veterans can receive chiropractic and rehabilitative care, as well as access to a wide network of providers offering medical, behavioral health, vision, acupuncture, and home care services.
Key features of the VA Optum Community Care Network include:
- Local Access: Veterans can see approved community providers close to home, avoiding unnecessary travel to distant VA facilities.
- Coordinated Care: Optum manages provider relationships, billing, and communication between local clinics and VA facilities.
- Comprehensive Services: The program includes medical, behavioral, chiropractic, and skilled nursing care authorized through the VA.
Dr. Wood’s Advocacy for Improved Access to Chiropractic Care in Pennsylvania
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Wood has been actively involved in legislative advocacy to make chiropractic care and modern scoliosis treatment more effective, efficient, and accessible. In June 2025, he joined statewide efforts to support Pennsylvania House Bill 1106, legislation that seeks to modernize the state’s Chiropractic Practice Act.
House Bill 1106, introduced on April 3, 2025, aims to allow chiropractors to delegate basic rehabilitative and therapeutic exercises to trained chiropractic assistants under direct supervision. Pennsylvania is currently one of the few states that still prohibits this, creating unnecessary barriers for patients seeking timely care.
The bill is pending in the House Professional Licensure Committee for the 2025–2026 legislative session and is strongly supported by patient advocates and healthcare professionals across the state.
“Allowing chiropractic assistants to handle needed supervised therapeutic exercises would make care more efficient and affordable,” said Dr. Wood. “This reform could help reduce wait times and improve recovery outcomes for Veterans and all patients.”
