Korea’s first global art-and-technology conference, FuturaCanvas 2025, successfully concluded on September 25–27 at Aube Studio in Seongsu-dong, Seoul. The three-day event brought together over 1,000 “art innovators” including artists, gallery and platform representatives, art institutions, and students, creating an energetic and vibrant scene.
This year’s theme, “Revival Avatar: Algorithmic Mythology,” examined how artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technologies shape beliefs and identities, while also highlighting the irreplaceable value of human imagination and emotion. On the final day, artists such as TEAM.SEOHWA, sue sha LAB, and Gallery STAN—currently exhibiting at Paradise Art Lab and KCS—led an immersive art tour that offered participants a unique, first-hand experience.
Seongsu-dong, long regarded as a hub for creative experimentation, served as the perfect backdrop. The venue featured the landmark generative art exhibition “Art Blocks 500”, a collaboration with Art Blocks and sponsored by Blue Canvas, alongside collaborative works from Be Coming Art, emerging talents selected through the LUSH Open Stage, and even a curated book showcase recommended by speakers. Audiences were able to explore a full spectrum of works—from globally acclaimed art to fresh experiments by rising creators—underscoring the event’s role as a platform where technology and art intersect.
The program also delivered numerous highlights. Sey Min, renowned for her data-driven AI art, delivered a keynote on “Bugged Human”, exploring the interface between humanity and technology. Matt Miller, a digital art collector and business development lead at OpenSea, shared insights into the global digital art market. Hyojung Seo, known for interpreting urban rhythms and transformations through art, offered new perspectives on future artistic practices.
Global photo NFT platform seed.photo discussed how creators can protect and leverage their IP through blockchain technology. A notable emphasis this year was on Asian leadership, with sessions spotlighting the media art ecosystems of Hong Kong and Tokyo, and exploring cross-platform collaboration within the Asian creative scene. The program also gained international significance as it introduced, for the first time in Korea, Marina Abramović’s NFT project.
The standout feature of FuturaCanvas 2025 was the Synference, an innovative format combining a debate show, artist tables, art screenings, and live performances. Breaking away from the limitations of traditional conferences, Synference enabled participants to explore the theme from multiple angles and engage in deeper, more dynamic discussions.
Michelle Kim, CEO of DoTPlanner, co-founder of the event, remarked, “The most valuable outcome of this year’s conference was the conversations and networks built directly by the participants themselves.” HyeIn Jeon, CEO of Artry, added, “FuturaCanvas has become a meaningful ground where art and technology intersect, prompting questions about humanity while collectively seeking new forms of identity.”
This year also marked stronger partnerships, with over 30 organizations joining the initiative. Sponsors included seed.photo, MICE PLUS, Blue Canvas, SEVENBRÄU, and POT, further elevating the significance of the event.
