New standards framework introduces maturity model and certification program designed to help organizations evaluate software quality practices for AI-generated code

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - July 9, 2026 - iTester, an independent software quality and assurance organization, today announced the launch of the iTester Global Vibe Testing Standards (iGVTS), a proprietary framework developed to help engineering organizations establish structured verification practices for software created with AI-assisted development tools. The framework includes technical standards, a five-level maturity model, and an associated certification program intended to support consistent quality assurance processes for AI-generated code.

The release of iGVTS comes as organizations increasingly integrate AI coding assistants into software development workflows. While these tools have accelerated development, many engineering teams continue to evaluate how existing quality assurance processes should evolve to address AI-assisted code generation.

According to data collected through the iTester Certification Program's intake assessments, approximately one in five participating engineering organizations reported having documented, reviewable procedures specifically addressing AI-generated code before deployment. These findings reflect observations from organizations participating in iTester's own assessment program and are intended to illustrate current implementation trends.

"AI-assisted development has introduced new opportunities for software teams, but it also highlights the importance of consistent verification practices," said Dana Whitfield, Chair of the iTester Standards Board. "The objective of iGVTS is to provide organizations with a structured framework they can use to assess and improve their software quality processes as AI becomes a larger part of the development lifecycle."

The iGVTS framework is organized into four technical standards that address different aspects of software assurance:

  • iVCT focuses on verification workflows, documentation, and traceability throughout the software development process.
  • iSEC addresses security considerations associated with AI-assisted software development and is designed to complement established industry security frameworks.
  • iPLUMB evaluates software infrastructure, APIs, deployment pipelines, and operational dependencies that support application delivery.
  • iUX provides guidance for assessing usability and user experience during software validation.

Organizations using the framework are evaluated through the iTester Assurance Maturity Model (iAMM), which defines five levels of organizational maturity ranging from Ungoverned to Optimizing. Certification levels—Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum—are awarded based on documented evidence submitted during the assessment process.

"We developed the framework by examining practical software testing challenges associated with AI-assisted development," said a member of the iTester SME Advisory Panel. "Our goal was to create guidance that organizations can apply within existing engineering and quality assurance workflows."

The iGVTS framework is publicly available through iTester and is intended for organizations seeking to evaluate or strengthen governance practices surrounding AI-assisted software development. Documentation describing the framework, maturity model, and certification process is available on the company's website.
