With nearly two decades of experience, Dr. Bentley has built a career that combines her strong background in classroom instruction with her knowledge of health administration. In her current role as a STEM education specialist, she provides professional development for educators and administrators across South Carolina.

A Unique Shift into Education
"My pathway has not been conventional," as stated by Dr. Bentley. Her professional journey began in South Carolina, where she worked in the health care field before transitioning to education. After earning a Bachelor of Science in biology from Erskine College in 2006 and while she completed continuing education courses at Clemson University, she worked as both a nursing assistant AnMed and substitute teacher in Anderson School District Five. Teaching soon became her full-time calling.
From 2008 to 2015, Dr. Bentley taught honors and college preparatory biology courses in Anderson School District Five. During this time, she obtained South Carolina Professional and Administrator Certifications. She also earned a Master of Education in administration and supervision from Anderson University in 2013 and completed the district's Assistant Principals' Academy. She later served as a teacher evaluator and team leader for the SAFE-T program, which involved mentoring new teachers through the certification process.
New Opportunities in New York
In 2015, Dr. Bentley relocated to New York, where she initially returned to the health care field as a medical assistant at a dermatology office. There, she provided select laser treatments and developed standard operating procedures for dermatologic laser equipment and patient safety protocols.
She began teaching science at a yeshiva in 2017. After obtaining a New York State Professional Teaching Certificate in Biology in 2018, Dr. Bentley taught for Nassau BOCES and in a New York State public school until the end of the school year in 2019.
A Return to South Carolina and Continued Growth
In 2019, Dr. Bentley returned to her home state to teach Project Lead the Way Biomedical Sciences and middle school science in Anderson School District Five until 2023. During this time, she completed the Bridges to Biotechnology and Bioentrepreneurship Summer Pipeline Program at Morehouse School of Medicine, where she later earned a Master of Science in biotechnology in 2021. Following this achievement, Dr. Bentley continued her education at Morehouse School of Medicine, receiving a Doctor of Health Administration in 2025.
Upon the culmination of her public school teaching career, she advanced into her current role as STEM education specialist for South Carolina's Coalition for Mathematics and Science at Clemson University, a position she has held since 2023. In this capacity, she continues to support educators through professional development, coaching and outreach opportunities.
Recognized Excellence and Lifelong Learning
Dr. Bentley's credentials include a Clinical Research Coordinator Certificate, Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt, and multiple CITI Program and Advanced Placement certifications. She received multiple academic and outstanding achievement awards from Morehouse School of Medicine in 2021 and 2025 and was recognized as a Top 10 Under 40 honoree in 2022. She has the distinct honor of representing Furman University as a Riley Fellow since 2025.
Published Works and Public Service
The academic literature on which Dr. Bentley has worked spans topics in biotechnology and health informatics and are published in Nature Bioengineering & Biotechnology and Frontiers Education. In addition to co-authoring these publications, which highlight pipeline programs designed to expand opportunities in science and health care, she served as the assistant project manager on the health informatics paper.
Dr. Bentley has presented at educational conferences and moderated discussions, including the 2021 Course Hero Educator Summit student panel. Her broader altruistic contributions extend to her involvement in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated as a member and recording secretary of Nassau Alumnae Chapter, youth etiquette instructor, Miss South Carolina pageant judge and other service opportunities through her church, Kingdom Vision Worship Center.
Family, Values and Future Goals
Dr. Bentley credits her success to her faith and the guidance of her parents. They encouraged her to live by the principle of always doing her best. As stated by Dr. Bentley, "When you do your best, you can navigate without the regret of wishing you had done better." She has shared this advice with her students and others throughout her career. Outside of her profession, she enjoys going to church, traveling, singing, reading and spending time with friends and family.
As she transitions into health care, Dr. Bentley's future goals include addressing high mortality rates among minority populations in the Deep South and improving health literacy in rural communities. She focuses on finding opportunities to combine her teaching expertise with her passion for health care to improve public health outcomes.
