TRACE ID provides advance product level traceability data as an indicator of low risk.
HAP International announced today that following a successful technical assessment of the quality and scope of shipment-level traceability data provided by the TRACE ID program, they are taking steps toward a formal Memorandum of Agreement with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The initiative builds on CBP’s ongoing Global Business Identifier (GBI) test and reflects the agency’s commitment to exploring innovative, risk-based approaches to facilitating legitimate trade.
TRACE ID provides CBP with unique product and risk-based traceability data on suppliers across the global supply chains. By delivering detailed product-level traceability information before shipments arrive at the U.S. border, TRACE ID helps CBP refine its risk determinations and focus enforcement resources where they are most needed. For importers, TRACE ID protects inventory and helps safeguard against costly supply chain disruptions.
“TRACE ID is an important step forward for both regulators and the trade community,” said Andre Raghu, Chief Executive Officer at HAP International. “By combining verified traceability data with supplier engagement and document integrity, we are enabling CBP to make more informed decisions while giving importers a powerful tool to demonstrate low-risk supply chains and protect their operations.”
Unlike purely digital traceability solutions, TRACE ID is part of the broader TRACE™ (Trusted Records and Compliance Evaluation) program. A collaborative, cross-industry initiative designed to strengthen trade compliance readiness, enhance visibility, and reduce operational compliance burdens through free traceability technology, shared best practices and supplier engagement on the ground.
Through TRACE, importers and suppliers gain access to:
- Enhanced compliance readiness with structured training, measurement, and continuous improvement.
- Reduced operational burden by simplifying work on common industry goals and reducing duplication across trade partners.
- Stronger supplier commitment at the source through verifiable records of traceability and document integrity.
- Competitive advantage by positioning as a trusted, low-risk trade partner with global import authorities.
TRACE ID recently completed proof-of-concept evaluation with CBP, offering early trade community participants the opportunity to shape the future of trade facilitation while realizing immediate benefits in compliance, efficiency, and risk reduction.
