"Fasten Seatbelts - Stories of British Civil Aviation" Marks the Literary Debut of Roger James Newton’s Amazing Aviation Life And Experiences

Roger James Newton, a man whose professional life has spanned law, commerce, and industry, has released his first book, Fasten Seatbelts – Stories of British Civil Aviation. This work offers an engaging and carefully researched account of Britain’s civil aviation journey, from its beginnings in 1919 to the complexities of the modern era. More than a history, it is a personal reflection by someone whose fascination with aircraft began as a boy standing at the fences of Manchester Airport in the 1960s.

Born in Stockport, Newton attended Stockport Grammar School and went on to study Law at the University of Sheffield, graduating in 1970. He began his career as a Solicitor in the Greater Manchester area before turning to industry and commerce. In 1974, he joined Rolls-Royce (1971) Limited in Derby as a Commercial Legal Adviser. His time at Rolls-Royce gave him a unique perspective on aviation’s inner workings, insights that add authenticity to the pages of his book. Newton later became Deputy Company Secretary of Babcock International plc, working during an era when Lord King of Wartnaby held chairmanships at both Babcock and British Airways.

After further senior management roles in the Food Manufacturing sector, Newton retired from full-time work in 2008 but remained active for fifteen more years, running a Legal and Trustee Services Consultancy. His lifelong commitment to learning and leadership has been matched only by his passion for aviation. That passion, sparked in childhood, matured alongside a career that kept him connected to the world of engineering and flight.

Fasten Seatbelts traces the evolution of British civil aviation across five parts. From the formative years of Imperial Airways through the golden age of British civil aircraft manufacturing and into the modern challenges of global travel, Newton brings the story to life with a balance of technical detail, human drama, and clear storytelling. Readers will find themselves immersed in the achievements and setbacks of an industry that has shaped not only Britain but also the wider world.

With personal reflections and numerous inside stories about British civil aviation, its history, development, and challenges, this work is a tribute to a lifelong curiosity and commitment to preserving an important part of Britain’s heritage.
