Chicago, Illinois – Background of Roblox Sexual Exploitation Claims
Roblox is an online gaming and creation platform geared toward children, including many under age 13. Through the platform, users can interact with one another across thousands of user-generated “experiences.” However, recent court cases allege that insufficient moderation has resulted in harm to children, including exploitation, grooming, sexual abuse, and sextortion.
Roblox lawsuits have been filed in multiple states, asserting systemic failures to moderate activity and protect underage users.
California: In August 2025, an Oakland County mother filed a federal lawsuit, alleging that her 10-year-old daughter was sexually exploited through Roblox. Another 10-year-old girl was abducted that month by Macatuno Naval, a 27-year-old man who met the child through Roblox and maintained communication with her through Discord.
Florida: Christian Scribben, 17, is being charged as an adult after authorities say he collected child sexual abuse material (CSAM) from at least five minors through communications on the Roblox platform. Some of the alleged victims are as young as 8 years old.
Georgia: A lawsuit filed in August 2025 alleges that a 9-year-old was sent sexually explicit images and urged to respond in kind. When the child wanted to stop, the predators reportedly threatened to expose the messages to the child’s friends.
Iowa: A 13-year-old girl’s family sued Roblox Corporation in July 2025 for its alleged role in the exploitation, grooming, kidnapping, and rape of the child. The lawsuit states that the minor met the adult through Roblox and was coerced into providing her location, after which time the predator abducted her from her grandmother’s home and traveled with her across state lines. She was reportedly assaulted multiple times before being found and returned home.
Louisiana: The Attorney General of Louisiana filed a suit alleging that Roblox created a “haven where predators thrive,” prioritizing profit over child protection.
Texas: A federal lawsuit was filed in May 2025 in connection with the alleged abuse of a 13-year-old girl from Galveston, Texas. According to the suit, the abuse occurred three years prior, when the minor met an adult on the Roblox platform. After the two began talking on Discord, the man allegedly gained access to her home and assaulted her. Reports state that he also recorded the abuse.
Common themes in the claims filed against Roblox include grooming, coercion, trafficking, and self-harm.
Key Allegations & Theories
Although each case is unique, common allegations have emerged in connection with Roblox and Discord, including the following.
Negligent Design: An April 2025 investigation by The Guardian alleged that inadequate age verification systems are enabling adult predators to communicate with children.
Encouragement of Off-Platform Conversations: A 2022 lawsuit filed against Roblox Corporation, Discord, Snap, and Meta alleged that minors were being encouraged to move away from Roblox and onto other platforms, which did not have age verification or robust security measures.
Failure to Intervene: A 2024 Bloomberg investigation found that a developer on the platform repeatedly made inappropriate jokes about minors, and that Roblox did not intervene until after children were harmed.
Misrepresentation of Safety: Claims allege that Roblox was marketed as a child-friendly and safe environment despite the corporation knowing its safeguards were insufficient.
Emotional Injuries and Physical Danger: Lawsuits claim that victims suffered emotional distress, mental health issues, and, in severe cases, self-harm or suicidal ideation.
Who May Qualify as a Potential Claimant
If your child has used Roblox or another platform while under the age of 18 and was subjected to any of the following, you may be able to pursue a claim:
- Was contacted by a person posing as a minor who was later revealed as an adult
- Was manipulated, threatened, or coerced into sending sexually explicit images or messages
- Experienced harassment, extortion, threats, or blackmail in relation to the Roblox platform
- Was detained, trafficked, assaulted, abused, or otherwise harmed in direct connection to in-platform interactions
- Suffered emotional distress, self-harm, suicidal ideation, or other mental health issues as a result of the harmful interactions
Your eligibility for a claim depends on statutory limitations, evidence, and liability. You may be able to pursue a lawsuit if the conduct falls under the legal definitions for negligence, product liability, consumer protection, or child protection.
