A 24-Hour Global Virtual Marathon Celebrating Talent, Education, and Advocacy in the Sickle Cell Community





World Sickle Cell Day 2025

BURBANK, CA, June 05, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cayenne Wellness Center and Children's Foundation, under the leadership of Executive Director Dr. Carolyn Rowley, and the Global Alliance of Sickle Cell Disease Organizations (GASCDO), led by Interim CEO Biba Tinga, are proud to announce a groundbreaking, 24-hour global event in honor of World Sickle Cell Day 2024. This virtual marathon will take place on June 19, 2025, from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM EST, and will feature educational sessions from healthcare professionals, inspiring stories from warriors and caregivers, and a celebration of the extraordinary talents found across the global sickle cell community.

The purpose of this marathon is to unite individuals from around the world and raise awareness, promote education, and provide support for those affected by sickle cell disease and trait.

"Our World Sickle Cell Day marathon is an opportunity to raise global awareness about sickle cell disease and trait while providing education and community support for individuals and families," said Dr. Carolyn Rowley. "We want the world to see that while we face serious health challenges, our community is rich in resilience, talent, and heart."

The theme for this year's event is "Global Action, Local Impact: Empowering Communities for Effective Self-Advocacy," emphasizing the need to enhance support systems and care at both local and international levels.

About the Global Alliance of Sickle Cell Disease Organizations (GASCDO)
GASCDO was born out of a shared vision to unite global sickle cell patient organizations. This vision took root during the Global SCD Patient Advocacy Advisory Board meeting hosted by Novartis in London, UK, on March 15, 2019. Following those powerful discussions, GASCDO was officially registered in Canada on October 21, 2019. Since then, GASCDO has been working to elevate the voices of people living with sickle cell disease and trait worldwide.
