Chicago Park District Teens to Race at Grant Park on NASCAR Chicago Street Race Grounds for 13th Annual Push Kart Derby

WHAT: 13th Annual Teen X-Stream Push Kart Derby, sponsored by the Chicago Park District

WHO: Over 100 students, grades 8 to 10, from 20 Chicago Park District summer camps

WHEN: 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3 (opening remarks); competition begins at 11:10 a.m.
Media Arrival Time: 10:30 a.m.

WHERE: Grant Park in downtown Chicago, at the corner of DuSable Lakeshore Drive and East Monroe Street. The Teen X-Stream Push Kart Derby, hosted by the NASCAR Chicago Street Race, will occur on the Chicago Street Race grounds, where NASCAR will hold its third annual street race July 5-6.

MORE INFO: Teens participating in the event have built their own push karts at Chicago Park District summer camps this year and will race them in a series of heats, leading to the finals later that day. Winners will receive tickets to the NASCAR Chicago Street Race. This is the first time in the Push Kart Derby's 13-year history that kids will be able to compete at Grant Park.

PHOTO OPS: Members of the media may take photos and video of the push kart races. On- camera interviews with event organizers and day camp participants will be available. Also, an ice cream truck will provide free refreshments to the day camp participants.
