About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Lesley J. Rios, the author of “Once I Had a Dog”, was diagnosed with cancer in January 2021

"You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." — Christopher Robin, Winnie the Pooh

Lesley J. Rios, the author of ''Once I Had a Dog'', was diagnosed with cancer in January 2021.  As she was fighting with determination and courage, Lesley received the dreadful news that her 15-year-old dog, Roxie, was declining in health.  One day in March, Lesley returned home from radiation treatment to hold her dog one last time.

Lesley Rios dedicated her book to the memory of her dog, Roxie, and the outstanding physicians and surgeons who treated her at VCU Massey Cancer Center. Lesley reflects on her special memories with her faithful companion by celebrating and lamenting the loss of the bond she experienced with her dog. In Once I Had A Dog, Lesley shares a message representing courage, strength, resilience, love, and loss with children and adults.

No matter how bittersweet, memories are gifts that live in people's hearts and thoughts, growing more vivid and unforgettable with each loving interaction. Lesley Rios recalls memories of Roxie, her cherished dog, that passed away during the most trying time in her life.

The best part of memories is that they become a permanent part of the person who has them and is theirs to keep. It's unnecessary to own showy electronic devices that, despite their grandeur and glamour, are actually frail and reliant on electrical pulses to function. To reflect, a person only needs to close his eyes and travel back in time whenever and wherever one chooses.

Lesley's former coworker in education, Marie Blocker, who currently resides and works in Frisco, Texas, provided the book's illustrations. With realism, a delicate color palette, and honesty, Ms. Blocker has depicted her friend's story, effortlessly evoking feelings of warmth and compassion in the reader.

Parents can read Once I Had a Dog by Lesley Rios to children ages 3-5, and school-age children can read the book independently. Adults can discuss with children an inevitable experience such as the loss of a pet while being reminded that the wonderful memories they have of their devoted and adoring friends will live on in their hearts forever.
