About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Roger Kurian’s successful career in the IT sector explained

Today, there is fierce competition in the IT sector, which means you need to be highly skilled and competitive to succeed. While it’s no easy task, it was a challenge that Roger Kurian was willing to take on.

With over 25 years of experience building his career in the IT industry, Roger Kurian began his career in IT and computer science at Bombay university in India. There, Kurian obtained his undergraduate degree, noting that he was an exceptional candidate.

Roger Kurian later went on to pursue higher education and obtain a Master's degree. Because of his excellent grades and relentless work ethic, Kurian applied and was accepted to the Masters in Computer Science Program at Kent State University in Ohio.

Kurian recalls having to take the GRE exam, otherwise known as the Graduate Record Examination in order to come to America to obtain his Master’s degree.

Roger Kurian also later discovered that he had received the GRE honors certificate for scoring the highest score in the GRE experimental section in the world, for people who had taken the GRE that year.

Kurian’s success continued when he went on to pursue his Master’s degree. Defending his fascinating thesis with success, it was later published on the Kent University Website.

“It was called the benefits to management of using GQM,” says Kurian.

For his thesis and presentation, Kurian went on to receive various accolades. This was just the start, however, of Roger Kurian’s successful career in the IT sector. He knew that he had more to give and more to accomplish, and he was excited for the next steps in his career.

Throughout Roger Kurian’s years of schooling. He worked on receiving many certifications, some of which are CSF, CSM and CSPO. He also obtained his real estate license and worked part-time in real estate. After his graduation, Kurian began working his way up in various companies, spanning across industries.

Detailing his experience, Kurian says he has over 25 year of IT experience. 15 of those years were in the financial industry.

“I worked for JP Morgan, Wells Fargo, Citi Group, Stanford Financial and more.”

Roger Kurian also has more than six years of experience in the oil and gas sector, working with Shell. Add to this four years of healthcare experience and four years of energy and utility experience, and Kurian became a highly sought after candidate.

One of the projects that Roger Kurian is forever proud to have worked on is called ARM. It’s a product that stands for Asset and Resource Management. Being the key engagement manager, salesperson, programs and project manager, Kurian was responsible for implementing this product across North America.

The product is not successfully used by approximately 62 percent of utility companies in North America, and Kurian takes pride in knowing he helped bring such a helpful product to market.

Companies like Dominion Electric, Louisville Gas and Electric (LGE) and Duke Energy are all implementing the product.

Throughout his experience in the IT sector, Roger Kurian has experienced many successes, but it hasn’t been easy getting there.

One piece of advice from Roger Kurian is: “It’s always important to take small steps and learn the ropes.”
