About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

New Wilkie Energy to Moving Ahead with Queensland Coal Mine with Renewable Energy Project

New Wilkie Energy has announced its plans to restart the Wilkie Creek coal mine in Queensland, merging coal with renewable energy. The acquisition of the mine from Peabody Energy comes alongside a large-scale renewable energy project, including a 400-megawatt solar farm and 200-megawatt wind farm, which could be up and running as early as 2024. The mining industry can expect a boost in the workforce as New Wilkie Energy ramps up operations at the mine.

New Wilkie Energy is optimistic about the future of this project as it sets out to become one of Australia's largest renewable energy projects. "I am delighted with the outcomes, and it is the result of great teamwork from a range of people who contributed to the success," says Zia Qureshi, CEO of Catalyst International.

Catalyst International worked as an integral part of the project origination and development team and played a pivotal role in the overall success of the venture.  Zia Qureshi, Chairman of Catalyst, said that he is delighted with the outcomes and is the result of great teamwork from a range of people who contributed to the success.

The project start-up included 4 people coming together with a piece of virtually blank paper to develop a billion-dollar business.  This team included Gary Williams, Patrick Hanna (one of Australia's leading geologists), Graeme Duncan (a leading mining engineer), and Zia Qureshi (Catalyst CEO).

  • The Wilkie Creek coal mine has a resource of over 1.2 billion tonnes with existing train loading, rail to port, electricity, water and road facilities from the previous operator.

  • The mine previously operated for 20 years, selling Newcastle-quality thermal coal to Japan, Taiwan and Korea before shutting down in 2013, and has been in care and maintenance since.

  • This project will rehabilitate the land and create jobs in the mining industry while also contributing to Australia's renewable energy goals.

Western Downs Regional Council mayor Paul McVeigh said the mine and energy park would greatly develop the area's credentials in energy creation.

"The Western Downs is earning its place as an energy production powerhouse and this new venture by New Wilkie Energy adds to our expanding industry offerings," McVeigh said.

"Council is always welcoming of opportunities to attract new investment opportunities, build our local workforce and create a stronger, more sustainable economy for the region."

"The combination of coal and renewable energy is a responsible way to transition to a cleaner energy future," says a spokesperson for New Wilkie Energy.

New Wilkie Energy is a leading energy company committed to sustainable practices. Through innovative solutions and investments in renewable energy, we strive to make a positive impact on the environment and communities we operate in.
