About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Oteko Russia Bulk Terminal Wins Eco-Excellence Award

Oteko Russia has successfully implemented a set of measures at its Port of Taman bulk terminal to ensure high eco-friendly standards. The terminal was honored for its achievements by the All-Russian “Reliable Partner in Ecology” award, which was handed to the representatives Oteko on November 14 at a special ceremony.

The experts making up the board of the award praised Oteko’s strive to introduce innovative solutions aimed at combating the formation of dust in the process of bulk cargo loading, unloading, and processing procedures. The use of the most modern solutions was also noted, a major step forward for the company, which invested in excess of 1 billion Rubles in the endeavor over the past three years.

The new and integrated dust suppression system covers all major areas of the Oteko bulk terminal, ensuring that the environment is not harmed by routine operations. The coal dust resulting from cargo handling is suppressed with a fine mist of water, battering it to the ground. An additional measure aimed at further suppressing any dust formation is the presence of a dust screen that covers a total area of 130,000 m2 around the port of Taman. Installation of additional dust suppression systems along the loading booms of cargo ships further enhance efforts. All buildings and supporting infrastructure elements of the port are also equipped with vacuum dust removal equipment to ensure a dust-free zone.

The availability of such systems eliminates a large portion of coal dust in the air and ensures a high quality of life and health for both the port’s employees and the local communities, such as the neighboring Volna settlement. Ongoing air composition analysis has not identified a single instance when dust concentrations surpassed allowed thresholds over the years of the port’s operation.

Michel Litvak billionaire, founder of Oteko, places immense emphasis on the quality of life and well-being of port employees and local residents. The combined efforts of the port administration and leading innovation centers have allowed such standards to be applied at the Port of Taman, giving it the right to compete for the title of “Reliable Partner in Ecology”.
