About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

The best partner for combustible gas detection

As the main energy source in production and life, combustible gas can be seen everywhere in industrial production and daily life. Common combustible gases are hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane, propane, ethylene, hydrogen sulfide and so on... Moreover, many flammable gases are themselves toxic and harmful gases, such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, chlorine, and so on.

Once these combustible gases exceed a certain concentration, they may explode and cause fire accidents, and their detection should be analyzed on a case-by-case basis.

Different application scenarios have different requirements for gas detection equipment, and there are different requirements for its core components - gas sensors. How to choose a suitable flammable gas sensor for our inspection equipment?

The so-called gas sensor is a converter that converts the volume fraction of a certain gas into the corresponding electrical signal. The probe heads condition the gas sample through a gas sensor, usually including filtering out impurities and interfering gases, drying or cooling the instrument display section.

In the coal mine, petroleum, chemical, municipal, medical, transportation, family and other safety protection, gas sensors are often used to detect the concentration or existence of combustible, flammable, toxic gases, or oxygen consumption.

How to select combustible gas sensor?

Combustible gas sensors mainly include semiconductor type, catalytic combustion type, electrochemical type and infrared type, which are suitable for combustible gas detection in different scenarios.

1. Semiconductor type

In general household places, it is usually required that the flammable gas leak concentration can be quickly detected when it is low, to achieve a single point alarm, and must meet the requirements of long-term maintenance-free, convenient for family use.

The semiconductor flammable gas sensor has a low detection limit and a long service life, and only the adsorption and desorption process of the gas exists in the detection process, and the serious oil fumes in the kitchen rarely remain on the surface of the sensitive material, which will not affect the actual service life, and is the best choice for home alarms.

 2. Catalytic combustion type

Catalytic combustion gas sensor is the most widely used sensor in the world at present, it responds fast, to the lower explosive limit concentration (LEL), the output of the sensor is almost proportional to the gas concentration, so the accuracy and repeatability are high. Suitable for quantitative testing in coal mine, petroleum, chemical industry, gas and other fields.

However, the catalytic combustion sensor has a high operating temperature, the catalyst is easy to deactivate, and the silicone and sulfide released by the adhesive and rubber products in the surrounding environment are easy to poison the catalyst, resulting in the failure of the sensor. In industrial places, the alarm is usually regularly checked by standard gas to adjust the magnification to prevent the sensitivity attenuation of the catalytic sensor from causing a significant deterioration in accuracy.

3. Electrochemical type

For the detection of low concentration carbon monoxide in the process of artificial gas and incomplete combustion, the alarm point is generally not more than 200ppm due to the high toxicity of carbon monoxide. In order to prevent false alarms or missing alarms, it is best to choose electrochemical gas sensors with high sensitivity and accuracy.

4. Infrared type

The infrared combustible gas sensor uses the non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) principle to detect hydrocarbon combustible gas in the air, which has the advantages of good selectivity, strong anti-interference ability, and easy poisoning, and does not need to be recalibrated frequently. In recent decades, it has played an important role in industrial safety and gas detection.

Finally

When you choose a gas detector with different detection principles, you need to first confirm the main gas composition of the detected environment, as well as other environmental factors, whether it is flammable gas, toxic gas or other, and then choose the appropriate gas detector to meet the safety needs.

We have been concerned about the safe development of various industries, and strive to solve the problems encountered by users, for different environmental gases, for users to choose suitable principles of the detector, with mature technology to improve the gas detection system. Welcome to inquire if necessary.
