About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

New Children’s Book by Penelope (Penny) Higgins Blends Whimsy, Wonder, and Faith: The Jiger and the Tiraffe

New Children’s Book by Penelope (Penny) Higgins Blends Whimsy, Wonder, and Faith: The Jiger and the Tiraffe

Beloved poet and storyteller Penelope (Penny) Higgins has delighted children and families once again with her latest release, The Jiger and the Tiraffe, a whimsical poem that reimagines the fanciful origins of tigers and giraffes. More than a playful story, the book carries a powerful and uplifting message: every child is a unique and special creation of God.

With clever rhymes and imaginative wordplay, The Jiger and the Tiraffe draws children into a magical world where creativity and faith intertwine. Higgins uses humor and curiosity to engage young readers, while gently reminding them of their self-worth and divine uniqueness.

A Tale of Imagination and Truth

At its heart, the poem asks a simple but delightful question: What if the animals we know today were once something entirely different? How did the tiger and giraffe come to be? Through the fanciful creatures “Jiger” and “Tiraffe,” Higgins weaves a story full of laughter, wonder, and awe. Beneath the whimsy lies an enduring truth — every child has a purpose, carefully created by God.

“Children sometimes compare themselves to others or wonder why they’re different,”

Higgins explains. “Through this story, I want them to know they are perfectly made, exactly as they are meant to be. They are God’s creation — and that makes them extraordinary.”

About the Author

Penelope (Penny) Higgins has been writing poetry since she was seven years old, nurturing a lifelong love of words and storytelling. Over the years, she has written several beloved children’s stories, including Oscar, the Mighty Crab, There’s A Bear in My Bed, and The Regimarilla from Regimarazz.

A retired teacher, Penny now lives in a small retirement community in Oregon, where she continues to enrich the lives of others through volunteer work, arts, and crafts. She has a large wonderful family. Family is at the heart of her inspiration:

Her stories often reflect her warmth, her deep sense of faith, and her joyful spirit — qualities that shine brightly in The Jiger and the Tiraffe.

For Families, Educators, and Faith Leaders

Perfect for bedtime reading, classroom story time, or church gatherings, The Jiger and the Tiraffe offers laughter, curiosity, and a gentle spiritual lesson in every stanza.
