About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

One of the first female singer-songwriters of the rock era, Jackie DeShannon is honored to serve as guest DJ for Sirius XM in celebration of Women’s History Month. DeShannon some of her favorite and most brilliant women of song, both household names and females who historically had careers that didn’t always resemble their more famous male counterparts, but whose importance to rock was indisputable.

The American female artist program features songs from The Ronettes (“Be My Baby”) whose sunshine pop placed nine times on Billboard’s Hot 100 and who became the only female group to tour with The Beatles. Also included is the “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin (“Respect”), Skeeter Davis (“The End of the World”), a cross-over country/pop singer, Barbara Lewis (“Baby I’m Yours”), an influential icon in R&B history, and Carla Thomas,(Gee Whiz) known as the Queen of Memphis.

DeShannon also chose songs from the “Queen of New Orleans,” Irma Thomas (“After The Rain”) and The Honeys (“He’s A Doll), a group that Brian Wilson considered the equivalent of a female Beach Boys. The American salute is rounded off by the iconic Etta James (“At Last”) and the legendary Supremes (“Stop In the Name of Love”).

The British vocalists who helped shape rock ‘n’ roll history encompass three of the most successful women internationally: Dusty Springfield (“Son of a Preacher Man”), Petula Clark(“Downtown”) and Olivia Newton-John (“Hopelessly Devoted to You”). DeShannon also honors Shirley Bassey (“Goldfinger”), Cilla Black (“You’re My World”), Helen Shapiro (“Walking Back to Happiness”), and Sandie Shaw (“Always Something There to Remind Me”), Marianne Faithful (“As Tears Go By”), Jackie Trent (“Where Are You Now?”), Samantha Jones (“No Regrets”) and Mary Hopkin (“Those Were the Days”), are also featured in the broadcast.

The radio sessions not only include songs by these female rockers but also brief histories created and spoken by DeShannon. She chose her female artists wisely, taking those well-known as well as incorporating others not as familiar. As an inspiring artist of the era – and beyond – DeShannon was the perfect choice to host. She toured with The Beatles on their first US visit, is an inductee of The Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, an inductee at the Library of Congress for “What the World Needs Now Is Love” and a Grammy recipient for “Bette Davis Eyes”). Additionally, Jackie serves as a correspondent on Sirius XM, bringing Beatle news on the weekends to “Breakfast With the Beatles.” She is also the composer, along with her brother Randy Myers and Jimmy Holiday, of one of the most beloved anthems to hail from the 1960s, “Put A Little Love in Your Heart.”

Jackie DeShannon is excited to share this broadcast which can be heard on the Sirius XM GOLDEN CHANNEL 73 and on the Sirius XM App.
