About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Will Embroidered Bedding Cause Discomfort To The Skin?

Firstly, situations that may cause discomfort

1. The embroidery process is rough or the wire is hard

Itching sensation source: If the embroidery thread material is synthetic (such as polyester) and the processing is improper (such as the thread end not trimmed, the stitches are too dense and hard), it may cause friction when in contact with the skin. Especially at the edges or raised areas of embroidered patterns, prolonged contact with the body (such as during sleep) may cause itching and redness.

Case: Low quality silk thread is often used for cheap embroidered Bedding, and the embroidery back is not smoothed (such as the lining fabric being too hard), which can cause a noticeable foreign body sensation when in contact with the skin.

2. Embroidery position and frequency of body contact

Sensitive area stimulation: If the embroidery is located on the intimate surface of the bed sheet or duvet cover (such as near the neck or feet), or on the contact area of the pillowcase with the face, the raised texture of the embroidery may continue to rub against the skin. For example, the surface of the pillowcase is embroidered extensively, and when the head rotates, it may rub against the cheeks, causing discomfort to sensitive muscles.

3. The material is not breathable or prone to sensitization

The dual effects of synthetic fabrics and embroidery: If the bedding fabric is made of materials with poor breathability such as polyester fibers, combined with embroidery techniques (especially thick thread embroidery), it may exacerbate the feeling of stuffiness, cause skin sweating, stickiness, and even trigger eczema (especially for people who are sensitive to dampness and heat).

Dyes and formaldehyde residues: Poor quality embroidery bedding may use dyes or fixatives containing formaldehyde, and prolonged exposure may cause allergic reactions (such as rash, itching).

Secondly, it is not easy to cause discomfort

1. Combination of high-quality craftsmanship and materials

Fine embroidery+soft thread: High end embroidery bedding often uses natural fiber threads such as cotton and silk, and the embroidery process is delicate (such as flat needle embroidery and French embroidery), with smooth stitches and concealed thread ends. The back lining is soft, and the touch is smooth when in contact with the skin. For example, fine embroidery on silk fabrics has almost no raised texture.Case: Some hotels customize embroidered bedding, which will be sanded on the back after embroidery to reduce friction.

2. The embroidery position should avoid the close fitting area

Decorative design: If embroidery is only used as edge decoration (such as around bed sheets, corners of duvet covers), or located on non intimate surfaces of bedding (such as the outside of duvet covers), it will not directly contact the skin and reduce discomfort. For example, the embroidery on the bedsheet and the embroidery pattern on the side of the pillowcase are only used as visual embellishments.

3. Breathable fabrics and environmentally friendly processes

Natural fiber fabrics: Pure cotton, linen and other fabrics have good breathability and are paired with active printed embroidery (without formaldehyde residue). Even with slight embroidery textures, they are not easily allergic to heat or chemicals.Lightweight Embroidery: Adopting lightweight techniques such as "stick embroidery" and "hollow embroidery" to reduce embroidery thickness, or using fine yarn embroidery to reduce physical irritation to the skin.
