About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

PRANCE Completes Iconic Round Tube Aluminum Ceiling Project at Cochin International Airport, India

PRANCE Metalwork Building Material Co., Ltd is proud to announce the successful completion of its latest milestone project: the Round Tube Aluminum Ceiling System at Cochin International Airport (IATA: COK), Kerala, India. This landmark installation brings together traditional cultural aesthetics and high-performance engineering in the international departure lounge of Terminal 3, reaffirming PRANCE’s commitment to innovative design and architectural excellence in public infrastructure.

India’s Gateway to the World

Cochin International Airport, located approximately 25 kilometers northeast of Kochi, Kerala, is the busiest airport in the state and one of India’s major international gateways. With over 10 million annual passengers, it ranks fifth in international passenger traffic nationwide. Opened in 1999, the airport is globally recognized for its achievements, including being the first airport in the world fully powered by solar energy and receiving the prestigious UN “Champion of the Earth” award for its sustainable initiatives.

Terminal 3, the focus of this project, is inspired by Kerala’s iconic Thrissur Pooram festival. The terminal combines cultural symbolism with modern architecture and features 84 check-in counters and 80 immigration counters, demanding both aesthetics and structural sophistication in its construction. The architectural challenge was clear: the ceiling must reflect the elegance of local heritage while performing flawlessly in a high-traffic, large-span environment.

Round Profile Baffle Ceiling: Form Meets Function

To meet these requirements, PRANCE supplied and installed its signature Round Profile Baffle Ceiling system in the departure lounge. Constructed from high-strength aluminum alloy and finished with a wood grain powder coating, the product offers a natural wood-like appearance while delivering long-term durability, corrosion resistance, fire retardancy, and moisture protection.

Its lightweight yet rigid structure is ideal for the scale and function of international airport interiors.

The ceiling system was installed using a concealed suspension carrier, ensuring clean linear alignment and a seamless finish. The warm tone of the wood grain complements Terminal 3’s cultural motif while enhancing natural light reflection throughout the space.

Tackling Complexity with Precision Engineering

The Cochin Airport project posed a series of architectural and technical challenges, each addressed by PRANCE’s experienced engineering team:

  • Large-span Installation: The vast lounge required segmented prefabricated ceiling units and reinforced suspension designs to ensure both structural safety and visual harmony.

  • MEP Coordination: Given the extensive HVAC and lighting systems, PRANCE pre-designed the ceiling panels with reserved openings and access points to accommodate mechanical, electrical, and plumbing integrations.

  • Tight Project Timeline: In line with the airport’s strict operational schedule, all ceiling panels were pre-manufactured off-site and delivered ready for rapid installation, supported by a skilled on-site team.

  • Complex Geometry: Terminal 3 features curved and multi-angled roof structures. The client specified that all beveled round tubes be factory-cut with zero on-site adjustment, requiring absolute precision in measurement, design, and production. PRANCE engineers utilized custom connectors and flexible installation methods to meet this requirement, resulting in flawless on-site assembly.

The result is a clean, rhythmic layout of round aluminum tubes that mirrors the grandeur of the space, harmonizing with Kerala’s cultural identity while optimizing function and durability. The airport authority praised the ceiling for enhancing comfort, visual continuity, and long-term maintenance efficiency.

Reinforcing a Global Portfolio
