About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

C.H. HANSON® Revolutionizes PVC Cutting with Introduction of PipeLOK™ by Superior Tool®
The Ratcheting PipeLOK Cutters by Superior Tool® are available in three models accommodating 1’ and 2” PVC pipe. They are designed to make cutting PVC pipe more precise, quicker, easier and cleaner.

C.H. Hanson is introducing the Ratcheting PipeLOK Cutters by Superior Tool® available in three models accommodating 1’ and 2” PVC pipe. Engineered to hold PVC pipes and tubing tightly in place, the newly designed jaw reduces the need to manually align tubing with a second hand. The hardened stainless steel blade, combined with the patented jaw design, allows for accurate positioning on the desired cutting mark and superior cutting results yielding clean cuts with no deburring required.

Designed to make cutting PVC pipe more precise, quicker, easier and cleaner, the lightweight, durable, one-handed PipeLOK offers an ergonomic ratcheting grip action that improves leverage for effortless operation. That saves time helping to keep projects on time and on budget. The tool’s one-button quick-change blade feature and durable powder coat finish means you’ll always have a sharp blade in a durable tool.

With the introduction of the PipeLOK, C.H. Hanson is providing solutions for the inefficiencies that have vexed professionals in the plumbing, irrigation and construction industries since the invention of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes and tubing.

“For nearly 160 years, C.H. Hanson has listened carefully to the needs of its customers before introducing new tools to the marketplace. Plumbers, irrigation and landscaping specialists and construction workers were clear on what they wanted in a PVC cutting tool: reduced fatigue and physical strain during repetitive tasks as well as reduced down time, and precision results in diverse conditions. We listened and our solution is PipeLOK, a revolutionary answer to the PVC cutting method,” said Greg Guess, Marketing Manager at C.H. Hanson, Co.

Backed by the Superior Tool lifetime warranty, PipeLOK is available in local hardware stores, home centers, online retailers and at www.superiortool.com.

Superior Tool has a nearly 80-year reputation for manufacturing innovative and professional quality tools for the plumbing industry. Its products are used by professionals and on DIY home maintenance projects. The company has introduced more than 24 new products to its line in the past few years, many manufactured in the U.S.

In 2020, the family-owned C.H. Hanson, headquartered in the Greater Chicago area since 1866, purchased Superior Tool adding to the company’s family of exceptional brands, which also includes Palmgren® industrial machinery and shop equipment. Wherever possible, C.H. Hanson embraces U.S. manufacturers that can also compete and win in the global marketplace.
