About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Pete Tychsen, President and Founder of Preservation Financial Group Interviewed on the Influential Entrepreneur Podcast Discussing a Balanced Retirement Strategy

Pete Tychsen discusses the importance of a balanced retirement strategy

Listen to the interview on the Business Innovators Radio Network: https://businessinnovatorsradio.com/pete-tychsen-president-and-founder-of-preservation-financial-group-discussing-a-balanced-retirement-strategy/

Pete Tychsen, president and founder of Preservation Financial Group, discusses the importance of having a balanced retirement strategy. Pete shares his journey into the financial services industry, which began after graduating from Florida State University in 1986. With a passion for helping individuals manage their finances and prepare for retirement, Pete introduces his innovative three-bucket strategy designed to create a well-rounded retirement plan.

A balanced retirement strategy is essential for ensuring financial security during retirement. One effective method to achieve this is by dividing assets into three distinct buckets, each serving a specific purpose. This approach helps retirees manage their income needs while also allowing for growth potential. Here’s a closer look at the three buckets:

  1. The Blue bucket: Designed to meet immediate income requirements. This bucket typically contains low-risk, liquid investments, such as checking and savings accounts. The primary goal of the blue bucket is to provide readily accessible funds to cover day-to-day expenses and unexpected costs without the need to sell investments at a loss during market downturns. Provides peace of mind and financial stability, allowing retirees to avoid the stress of market fluctuations.
  2. The Green Bucket: The green bucket focuses on providing protected income over the first 10 to 15 years of retirement. This bucket is crucial for retirees who want to ensure a steady income stream without depleting their savings during market volatility. Protects principal while providing income, helping retirees avoid the risk of running out of money prematurely. It also allows time for the stock market investments in the red bucket to grow without being affected by short-term fluctuations. This bucket also provides financial stability, allowing retirees to avoid the stress of market fluctuation.
  3. The Red Bucket: The red bucket is intended for long-term growth and is where retirees can invest in the stock market. This bucket is essential for those looking to grow their assets over time, replenishing the other two buckets as needed. Offers the potential for higher returns, which can be used to support income needs later in retirement. This bucket is particularly important for younger retirees who have more time to recover from market downturns.
