About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Author Pens Empowering Debut Single for Trauma Survivors

Bestselling memoirist Ellen Newhouse is branching out into songwriting with the upcoming release of her debut single, Dream Stealer.

The deeply personal track serves as a “love letter” to Ellen’s younger self and a message of empowerment for survivors of abuse. Ellen, who grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts and later moved to New York City, overcame a traumatic and violent childhood – a journey she wrote about in her bestselling memoir Nothing Ever Goes On Here and her one-woman show of the same name.

For the last 35 years, Ellen has worked as a healer integrating acupuncture, sound healing and transformational coaching to help others heal from their own traumatic pasts and transform their lives Now at the age of 65, she has channeled her own harrowing experiences and her deep emotional compass into a catalog of 15 songs she’ll begin sharing on streaming platforms  in 2025.

Ellen, who now lives in Seattle, says: “When I started writing songs, the creativity just poured out of me. Like my memoir, Dream Stealer is about my journey to break free from the generational chains of abuse and learn to thrive.

“The beauty of a song over the written word is there is an element of ambiguity, so it means different things to different people, depending on what they have gone through. When people listen to it, they relate it to their own life, their own difficult experiences and it becomes personal to them.”

Dream Stealer has already been placed in an upcoming film called Unseen, which is a psychological thriller which deals with abuse. And it will be available across music streaming platforms from January 17, 2025.

Ellen adds: “The message behind the song is the same as the message in everything I do. No matter what has gone on in your life, you can heal and create the life you love.

“I want the song to give people hope – don’t let anybody steal your dreams. A light is always there to guide us, even when we find ourselves in the greatest darkness of our lives.

“Towards the end of the song, there is a line which says, ‘My innocence held me strong’ and I think this is so important. Even though the world might tell us otherwise at times, our greatest strength is truly our vulnerability, love and our love for ourselves.

“You cannot heal anything unless you first begin by loving yourself.”
