The Silver Sneakers Tuition Rewards Program is a unique benefit available to Medicare beneficiaries whose plans include Silver Sneakers, allowing them to earn tuition dollars for their family members. Despite its significant financial advantages, this program remains relatively unknown, even among agents in the Medicare space.

How It Works

To participate in the program, beneficiaries must first sign up through the Silver Sneakers section of their Medicare plan. They should consult with a licensed agent to obtain the specific enrollment link. Upon signing up, beneficiaries receive a guaranteed minimum scholarship of 1,000 points, equivalent to $1,000. This serves as a starting point for accumulating tuition rewards. Once enrolled, beneficiaries can designate a family member as a student. This can include children, grandchildren, or other relatives, enabling them to accumulate points for educational expenses. Points can be earned from the time the beneficiary adds a student until August 31st prior to that student’s senior year of high school.

For every visit to a Silver Sneakers location or participation in an approved activity, beneficiaries can earn additional points. Specifically, if they engage in these activities at least seven times a month, they can earn 250 points each month.

The potential for accumulating tuition dollars is substantial. For instance, if a beneficiary begins accumulating points when a grandchild is born and continues until the grandchild’s senior year, they could amass a significant amount for education.
