About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Podcast “Demystifying the Transgender Journey” Honors Transgender Day of Visibility with Six-Episode Spotlight

In recognition of Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31, the podcast Demystifying the Transgender Journey is shining a spotlight on its first six powerful episodes, available now on all major platforms. While the show launched earlier this year, the hosts are using this nationally recognized day to elevate the voices and stories that too often go unheard.

Created to challenge misinformation and humanize the transgender experience, the podcast is hosted by Lynn W. Murphy, a cisgender educator and Amazon #1 bestselling author, and Wendy Cole, a transgender woman and late-in-life transition mentor who began her journey at age 67.

Each episode features real, unscripted conversations with transgender individuals, their loved ones, healthcare professionals, coworkers, allies, and advocates, offering listeners a compassionate, informed lens into what it means to be transgender today.

“This project is about replacing fear with understanding,” said Cole. “We’re sharing raw, real stories that deserve to be heard—not just by the LGBTQ+ community, but by anyone ready to listen with an open heart.”

Stream the first six episodes now on Apple Podcasts:
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/demystifying-the-transgender-journey/id1799458202

Topics explored in the first episodes include:

  • Personal coming-out and transition journeys
  • Navigating medical, legal, and emotional changes
  • Family relationships and workplace inclusion
  • What allies, parents, and professionals need to know
  • Terminology that may be new or confusing

The podcast is part of a growing multimedia initiative that includes YouTube interviews, a forthcoming book, blog articles, and a private online community for individuals who are not transgender who want to better understand and support the transgender experience.

“Visibility matters, but visibility without context can be shallow,” said Murphy. “We’re here to create meaningful conversations that educate, inspire, and build lasting bridges between communities.”

More Than a Podcast — A Learning Community

At the heart of the project is a vibrant, intentional community where cisgender and transgender individuals can safely explore, ask questions, and grow as allies together. Through monthly meetings, curated content, and optional one-on-one conversations with Wendy Cole, members are invited into a space of respectful learning.

This community is designed for people who are curious, open-minded, and ready to engage, not for those seeking a peer support group. The focus is on helping those who are not transgender learn more about the experience through conversations with people who are comfortable sharing their experiences in the transgender community. For transgender individuals looking for direct peer connection, the team provides referrals to trusted support organizations.

Why Now Matters

Transgender Day of Visibility, observed annually on March 31, celebrates the achievements of transgender people while raising awareness of the challenges they face. According to the Williams Institute at UCLA, more than 3.3 million transgender adults live in the United States, many navigating their identity in an environment that remains deeply polarized.

Cole and Murphy believe education through storytelling is key to creating change, one listener, one conversation at a time.
