About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Author Launches Empowering Book and Journal to Help Tween Girls Build Confidence and Inner Strength

Philadelphia, PA – April 2025 — A new book aimed at helping tween girls navigate the challenges of growing up with confidence and clarity is gaining national attention. Pamela Richardson-Smith, a Philadelphia-based educator and youth advocate, has authored From Invisible to Invincible: A Tween Girl’s Guide to Self-Empowerment, which recently reached the top of Amazon’s bestseller list in its category.

The book addresses common issues faced by tween girls—typically ages 9 to 12—such as self-doubt, peer pressure, emotional regulation, and finding one’s voice. Drawing from her professional background and personal experience, Richardson-Smith offers practical tools, age-appropriate guidance, and positive messaging intended to help readers develop resilience, self-awareness, and a strong sense of identity.

“This is a critical stage in development,” Richardson-Smith said in a recent interview. “Girls at this age are forming their self-perception, and many are already experiencing social pressures that can make them feel unseen or unheard. This book is about helping them understand their worth before the world tries to define it for them.”

The book is structured around key themes such as confidence, courage, communication, and character. Each chapter includes prompts, reflection activities, and real-world examples designed to engage young readers in both conversation and self-exploration.

In addition to the book, a companion journal has also been released. The journal serves as a supplemental resource, providing space for readers to write, reflect, and apply what they are learning. It includes prompts related to emotional intelligence, goal-setting, and positive self-talk, among other topics. The journal is intended to be used alongside the main book or independently.

A group program to support tween girls is currently in development. According to Richardson-Smith, the initiative will feature small-group workshops, peer interaction, and guided activities that build on the content of the book and journal. The program is expected to launch later this year, with details about registration and participation to be announced in the coming months.

Educators and parents have expressed interest in the growing collection of tools, citing the accessibility of the language and the practical nature of the activities. “It’s clear that this book was written with deep insight into the world of pre-teen girls,” said one Philadelphia-based middle school teacher. “It meets them where they are, but also gently calls them forward.”

Richardson-Smith, who holds a background in education and social-emotional learning, has been involved in youth mentorship for over a decade. She has facilitated workshops for schools and community groups throughout Pennsylvania and is recognized for her work in promoting positive identity formation among girls.

From Invisible to Invincible and its companion journal are now available on Amazon. The group program will be Richardson-Smith’s first formal offering, combining written material with live, interactive support.
