About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Memorial Day Plans: Inflation Curbs Activities

This Memorial Day Weekend, expect to spend extra for a number of things, as detailed in the list below. There has been a significant rise in the cost of several essentials as the summer season begins.

Memorial Day weekend brings out the best in everyone, whether it’s an additional day off work, a chance to crash on the sofa, or an excuse to indulge in copious amounts of grilled meat and ice-cold beer.

High food and gas prices may make for a smaller holiday celebration this year, despite the fact that Americans are still celebrating (or even no celebration at all).

Numerator, a data business, surveyed 1,646 individuals and found that 50 percent of low-income families would not participate in this year’s holiday festivities. Those with higher salaries may be better able to deal with rising prices, but this year many individuals intend to forgo eating out, purchasing decorations, and even drinking alcohol, according to the study.

Some 44% indicated they would not decorate their homes for the holidays, and 49% said they would not eat out this year. Moreover a third (31%) of those polled claimed they would also cut down on their alcohol use.

Only 33% of customers responded that inflation will have a “significant effect” on their vacation plans. Only 33% of those polled said they were concerned about inflation, suggesting that many are either unaware of it or unwilling to admit its existence.

Contrary to popular belief, Memorial Day gifts do not fall into the same category as food and apparel. It seems that 92% of customers want to acquire their daily essentials from a local retailer.

Meat Is Still on the Menu Despite Fewer Travelers

Despite the fact that 27% of those polled indicated they would not travel at all this year, another 20% said they would go a lesser distance than normal, inflation has had an impact on those making travel arrangements. Residents in the Northeast, on the other hand, are more likely than their counterparts in the South and the Midwest to plan a trip.

Contrary to popular belief, the prevalence of the sickness that has long influenced people’s travel choices has lately been shown to be increasing once again, according to previously disclosed statistics. Consumers in the Midwest and the South were the least worried about the continuing epidemic, with over 60% of respondents saying so, according to the study.

Even though meat is one of the main reasons for celebrating the occasion, individuals don’t seem to be prepared to compromise. Seventy-five percent of people intend to buy beer, therefore it’s still popular.

Coupon-cutting is only one of many ways people are saving money. Three-quarters of shoppers (37%) say they’ll utilize coupons, while six-fourths (64%) say they’ll buy on sale instead of paying full price.

It’s no secret that consumers are worried, even if analysts believe that inflation will begin to decline soon. Since the average gallon of petrol costs over $4.50, many people are rethinking their normal activities, even if it is a habit to celebrate with friends and family.
