About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Global Natural History Day 2025 Global Finals Kicks Off at Shanghai University

On the afternoon of July 18, the Global Natural History Day® 2025 Global Finals, co-organized by the National Museum of Natural History, the Global Health and Education Foundation, and Shanghai University, officially commenced at the Baoshan Campus Gymnasium of Shanghai University. The event aims to strengthen cultural exchange among youth and foster the development of natural sciences.

Attending the opening ceremony were Xue Li, Chairman of the China Association of Natural Science Museums (CANSM); Wan Shilin, Party Secretary of the National Museum of Natural History; Stephen P. Beinke, President of Behring Global Educational Foundation; Shen Anqi, Vice President of Behring Global Educational Foundation; Liu Changsheng, President of Shanghai University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Duan Yong, Deputy Party Secretary of Shanghai University.

A total of 640 teams from 14 regions across China and three specially invited areas will participate in a series of activities over five days, competing in five categories: science exhibitions, science performances, science topic presentation, science-themed artwork, and storytelling, in a grand showdown of natural science exploration.

During the ceremony, Stephen P. Beinke reflected on the development of Global Natural History Day since its launch in 2012. On behalf of the Global Health and Education Foundation, he expressed gratitude to partners for their contributions to the sustainable development of natural science museums and encouraged participants to fully experience the event’s unique appeal.

Xue Li extended congratulations on the opening of the 2025 Finals, noting that the program aligns closely with museum-based education philosophies by extending resources into broader social spaces and inspiring young minds’ passion for science.

Wan Shilin emphasized that the true value of Global Natural History Day lies in nurturing scientific curiosity among youth and fostering a generation that instinctively values nature conservation.

Liu Changsheng highlighted Shanghai University’s commitment to youth innovation in science, underscoring its role in facilitating scientific exploration, research, and public engagement. As an open, inclusive, and innovative institution, the university provides a global platform for young participants to exchange ideas and showcase their talents.

Global Natural History Day® (GNHD®) is a youth natural science extracurricular education activity initiated by Kenneth. E. Behring, the founder of Behring Global Educational Foundation since 2012. It is a nonprofit initiative designed to ignite students’ interest in natural sciences while enhancing their research, analytical, and communication skills. Over its 14-year history, the program has engaged over 100,000 teams, impacting hundreds of thousands of families and millions of students and educators.
