About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Alliance Sensors Group Launches PG Series LVDT Linear Position Sensors and S2A Smart Signal Conditioner for Power Generation Valve Control Systems

Pennsauken, NJ, United States, 24th Sep 2025 –  H. G. Schaevitz LLC, Alliance Sensors Group (ASG), has announced the release of its new PG Series LVDT linear position sensors, specifically engineered for valve position feedback in turbine valve control systems used in electric power generation plants. At the same time, ASG highlights its S2A Smart AC-LVDT Signal Conditioner, an advanced signal processing solution designed to seamlessly pair with LVDTs and ensure precise, secure, and reliable operation in critical power generation environments.

PG Series: Purpose-Built for Steam Turbine Environments

Traditional LVDTs used in power generation are based on decades-old OEM designs or modified catalog parts that struggle under turbine vibration and heat. The new PG Series overcomes these issues with a rugged, field-driven design developed in close collaboration with power generation controls engineers.

Key PG Series Features:

  • Captive core design prevents cores from ever separating from the operating rod
  • Large 3/8″ operating rod with optional rigid or ball-joint couplings for easier alignment
  • Double-contact shaft seals keep out contaminants in harsh environments
  • Screw clamp terminals (No. 24–14 AWG) no fragile connectors to fail
  • Continuous operation in ambient temperatures up to 350 °F (175 °C)

The PG Series is available in six full-scale ranges from 0–3 to 0–16 inches (75 to 405 mm). Two construction styles are offered: the PGHD Heavy Duty model (1-1/16″ body diameter) and the PGSD Super Duty model (1-5/16″ body diameter), with optional radiation-certified builds.

S2A Signal Conditioner: CyberSecure and Smart Setup

The S2A Smart AC-LVDT Signal Conditioner is engineered for the power generation sector to deliver fast setup, cybersecurity protection, and extensive diagnostics. It works with a wide range of LVDTs, RVDTs, and inductive half-bridge sensors, including legacy GE 3-wire LVRTs and gas turbine LVDTs.

Key S2A Features:

  • Cybersecurity tamper prevention and system notification of tamper attempts
  • Color-coded plug-in connections and hot-swap capability
  • Extensive self-diagnostics: detects over 11 fault conditions
  • Two-year warranty

S2A Operating Benefits:

  • Push-button calibration completes setup in minutes
  • RS-485 digital communications for remote configuration
  • Enhanced fault diagnostics for nuclear- and turbine-grade reliability

The S2A’s built-in microprocessor automates calibration. Operators simply press the front-panel Zero and Full Scale buttons, or use RS-485 for remote setup, reducing setup time by up to 90%.

Designed to Work Together

When paired, the PG Series sensors and the S2A signal conditioner provide a complete valve position feedback solution for steam turbine control systems. The combination delivers rugged mechanical durability plus smart electronic control, ensuring accurate, reliable, and secure operation in demanding power generation environments.
