About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Astera Labs Expands Leadership Team and Operations to Position Itself for Accelerated Growth

Patrick Henderson Joins as Head of Sales; Opens Canada Design Center to Augment Product Development Efforts

Astera Labs, a pioneer in purpose-built connectivity solutions for intelligent systems, today announced the appointment of Patrick Henderson as vice president of sales. Henderson will lead the direct and channel sales operations for the company globally.

Henderson is the third senior leadership team member to join Astera Labs this year. Earlier in 2021, the company appointed Kalyan Mulam as vice president of engineering and Kush Saxena as vice president of human resources. These additions further strengthen Astera Labs’ management team of accomplished industry veterans as the company scales to manage increased demand from cloud and data center customers for its broad portfolio of connectivity solutions.

Prior to his current appointment, Henderson served as vice president and co-general manager of Broadcom’s mixed-signal ASIC products division. He has held various management and sales leadership roles at Broadcom over a tenure spanning 20 years, including leading sales for Broadcom’s North American operations for five years.

“Data and the speed with which it is processed is central to unleashing the full potential of applications such as artificial intelligence and machine learning for arriving at actionable insights,” said Henderson. “I am honored to lead Astera Labs’ efforts in broadening its market reach and accelerating the growing demand for its connectivity solutions that enable faster processing of data through removal of performance bottlenecks within the data center.”

“I am thrilled to have Patrick join our team to lead our sales efforts during an exciting phase as the company positions itself for the next stage of growth,” said Sanjay Gajendra, chief business officer for Astera Labs. “The continued expansion of our management team and opening of our Canada Design Center will together advance Astera Labs’ lead as a preferred provider of connectivity solutions to cloud service providers for their data-centric systems.”

Astera Labs also embarked on its expansion plans with the opening of offices in Toronto, Canada to boost product development cycles and grow the company’s existing pool of engineering talent. The new office in Toronto will serve as an end-to-end design center with a fully functional lab for technology and product development. The company continues to actively hire engineering talent for its design center in Toronto.

“With one of the most highly skilled and diverse workforces in the world, along with our strong postsecondary institutions, and vibrant innovation and tech ecosystem, Toronto is a top destination for business and talent,” said Toronto Mayor, John Tory. “I want to thank Astera Labs for investing in the Toronto Region’s post-pandemic economic recovery, creating high-value jobs, and contributing to our globally recognized technology sector.”

“We are thankful to the City of Toronto and Toronto Global for their warm welcome and continued support during this process,” commented Sanjay Gajendra, chief business officer for Astera Labs.

“Our vision is to establish the Astera Labs’ Design Center in Toronto as a world-class ASIC engineering team that will shape the future of advanced technologies and products,” said Sagar Satish, engineering director for Astera Labs’ Toronto Design Center. “Toronto has become a global technology powerhouse in recent years and Astera Lab's revolutionary, cloud-based design approach facilitates close collaboration across design teams, regardless of differences in time or location.”

Astera Labs recently secured $50M in Series-C funding to accelerate customer momentum and broaden its product portfolio to address rapidly increasing demand. Astera Labs’ connectivity solutions based on PCI Express® (PCIe®) and Compute Express Link™ (CXL™) address bandwidth, performance and capacity bottlenecks throughout the data center.
