About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Cast off confidently with the new Garmin GPSMAP 79 marine handheld series

Handheld marine GPS series features high-resolution, sunlight-readable color display with built-in BlueChart g3 coastal charts

Garmin® International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the world’s largest1 and most innovative marine electronics manufacturer, today announced the GPSMAP® 79 marine handheld series designed to equip mariners with a suite of essential, easy-to-use onboard navigation tools from the palm of their hand. Building on the legacy of the GPSMAP 78 series, the GPSMAP 79 series introduces an all-new design with modern display features and optional built-in BlueChart® g3 coastal charts to enhance navigation and peace of mind for boaters as they explore open waters. Packed securely in a rugged, floating design, the GPSMAP 79 series is purpose-built to suit a variety of on-water lifestyles.

“Whether used as a backup solution for onboard electronics or a dedicated navigation device, the GPSMAP 79 series provides a number of key tools every mariner should have on hand when leaving shore,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “Along with a fresh new design, easy-to-interpret mapping and modern features, the GPSMAP 79 Series offers greater peace of mind and more efficient on-water navigation as mariners search for promising fishing spots or set out on a weekend cruise.”

Enhanced navigation

The GPSMAP 79 series is available in two models – the GPSMAP 79s with a built-in worldwide basemap and support for downloadable marine charts, and the GPSMAP 79sc which comes standard with built-in BlueChart g3 cartography. In addition to a 3-axis tilt-compensated compass, GPSMAP 79 marine handhelds use reliable GNSS with support for multiple constellations which allows boaters to access data across the world.

Crisp display

No matter the conditions, the GPSMAP 79 series prevents fogging and improves contrast of on-screen mapping thanks to a larger, optically bonded display with 2.5-times higher resolution than its previous range. Specially crafted for life on the water, the new, transflective color display with a scratch-resistant glass lens allows for sunlight-readable navigation to enhance clarity and visibility in outdoor environments.

Marinized design

The GPSMAP 79 series provides users with up to 19 hours of battery life while using GPS, and – thanks to its practical floating design and water resistance2 – can continue to perform in harsh marine environments. For capturing even more adventures on the lake or at sea, the GPSMAP 79 series offers 8GB of memory for storage of up to 10,000 waypoints and 250 routes.

The GPSMAP 79s and GPSMAP 79sc marine handhelds are available now with suggested retail prices of $299.99 and $349.99, respectively. To learn more about the GPSMAP 79 series and Garmin’s full range of marine GPS handhelds, click here.
