About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Major League Baseball Steps up to the Plate to Support Employees’ Return to the Office

Partners with Bright Horizons to offer an array of options to meet employees’ needs from emergency child care to virtual tutoring and more

Bright Horizons (NYSE: BFAM) has partnered with Major League Baseball (MLB) to offer family-friendly benefits to employees as they return to the office this fall. According to the Bright Horizons Modern Family Index, nearly 46% of employees want their employer to provide some form of child care or emergency child care to support them as they return to the office. Understanding the challenges of working parents, Major League Baseball is stepping up to the plate to offer its employee important family-friendly supports as more than 1,200 full-time employees return to the office this fall. The organization hopes to help minimize caregiving challenges as employees seek a new work/life balance after working remotely since the beginning of the pandemic.

“We understand that returning to the office is going to be an adjustment for our employees, particularly working parents who have established specific child care arrangements that accommodate a remote work set-up,” said Diane Cuddy, Vice President, Human Resources, Major League Baseball. “In gathering feedback from employees, we also learned that many are looking for assistance caring for adult loved ones, so we wanted to make sure we offered the resources that help them juggle the demands of a full-time career with the needs of their family.”

MLB’s full-time employees now have access to back-up child or elder care to assist with unexpected situations, such as when a nanny gets ill or an elderly relative takes a fall. In addition, they also have access to an array of additional supports, including access to babysitter and pet sitter networks, nanny-placement services and discounts on private tutoring and test prep services.

“Employees across the country are starting to head back to the office – an endeavor that will no doubt be challenging given the continued disruption in schools and with child care arrangements,” said Stephen Kramer, Chief Executive Office of Bright Horizons. “There is an immense business impact in helping employees address this challenge, as relieving working parents of the worry of child care results in employees that are present, engaged and productive. We applaud MLB for listening to and supporting its employees as we continue to navigate these uncertain times.”
