About Cabling Installation & Maintenance:

Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals.

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on:

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Travelers Institute Kicks Off Summer 2021 Virtual Programming with ‘The Future of Cities’ Webinar

The Travelers Institute, the public policy division of The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRV), begins its summer programming on Wednesday, May 26, at 1 p.m. ET with “The Future of Cities.” Hosted by Joan Woodward, President of the Travelers Institute and Executive Vice President of Public Policy at Travelers, the webinar will explore urban centers in the post-pandemic era, including unique perspectives on changing or accelerated trends and public policy priorities, with a spotlight on New York City and San Francisco.

The event will feature the following speakers:

  • Kathryn S. Wylde, President & CEO, Partnership for New York City.
  • Jim Wunderman, President & CEO, Bay Area Council.

“The pandemic has created unprecedented challenges for the nation’s urban centers, not simply in public health but also with respect to the factors that will drive the post-COVID economy, including new demands on our transportation and telecommunications infrastructure and our education and workforce development systems,” said Wylde. “Federal aid has gone a long way to sustain households, small businesses and government services during the pandemic, but it is a long road to recovery that will depend on close collaboration among the public, private and nonprofit sectors.”

“While the pandemic has certainly exacerbated some challenges in the San Francisco area, it has also created new opportunities,” said Wunderman. “The Bay Area Council has partnered with business leaders to develop strategies that ensure our region is vibrant and competitive, and I hope to share how those approaches may apply to other communities across the country during this week’s webinar.”

This continues the Travelers Institute® “Wednesdays with Woodward” virtual series, which launched in 2020. All events are free and open to the public, and participants can register online at the Travelers Institute website.

“The upcoming programs will cover an exciting array of subjects, with a special focus on risks and trends that are shaping the current outlook for U.S. businesses,” said Woodward. “We look forward to hosting thought leaders in public policy, financial services, innovation and more with the goal of offering valuable tools our guests can use at work and in their daily lives.”
