About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

MDT Hosts First Annual Innovation Celebration Day

CUSO celebrates ongoing innovation initiative across the organization

Member Driven Technologies (MDT), a CUSO that hosts the Symitar core processing system from Jack Henry to provide a private cloud alternative for core processing and IT needs, announced that it is hosting its first annual Innovation Celebration Day today, Nov. 17. The event is in recognition of the ongoing enterprise-wide innovation initiative the company has prioritized over the last four years.

Four years ago, MDT formed an internal Innovation Team to make sure new ideas and perspectives were encouraged and heard across all departments. The CUSO also began holding an annual Innovation Challenge, in which cross functional teams were formed throughout the organization to design, test and present ideas for how to improve the company through innovation. Many of those ideas have been implemented over the years, including a new partnership and a new service offering that MDT is rolling out later this year.

Tracie Loudermilk, senior manager, project management and consulting services for MDT, has been a member of the company’s Innovation Team for several years. She said, “Innovation at MDT doesn’t just mean the big ideas or new, modern technology; while those are important, it also means implementing process efficiencies and incremental improvements across the organization, at all levels. After all, small ideas can create big impacts. It’s incredible to work for an organization that not only encourages employees to share ideas but also provides visibility around seeing those ideas through.”

As part of Innovation Day, MDT is welcoming Cheryl Kuch, president and principal consultant of Capability Creators, to speak at its headquarters. Cheryl has been working with MDT for over five years, including supporting their innovation initiatives as a judge for the Innovation Challenge, providing a human-focused perspective on innovation impacts. After Cheryl’s speech, all employees will enjoy a meal together and share ideas for consistent improvement.

Chris Kowal, chief financial officer of MDT, is the Innovation Team’s executive sponsor. He explained, “At MDT, we recognize that each employee brings a unique voice and perspective, and we encourage them to proactively speak up and share those thoughts. We believe this not only benefits our employees, culture and company but our clients as well. It allows us to introduce strong new ideas around how we can improve and expand our offerings to meet their needs, ultimately delivering greater value to them. I’m proud to celebrate innovation today and every day with my team members at MDT.”
