About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Now in its 23rd year, Canada’s Top Employers is a national awards program, operated by Mediacorp, recognizing employers that lead their industries and offer exceptional workplaces. Companies are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. Employers across the country are evaluated by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers using eight criteria, which have remained consistent since the project’s inception:

  • Physical workplace
  • Work atmosphere and social
  • Health, financial, and family benefits
  • Vacation and time off
  • Employee communications
  • Performance management
  • Training and skills development
  • Community involvement

Earlier this year, iQmetrix was named one of BC’s Top 50 Employers for 2022 (all company sizes), and one of Canada’s Top 100 Small and Medium Employers for 2022 in the same awards program. The company’s upgrade to its 2023 ranking in the overall list of Canada’s Top 100 Employers (all company sizes) reflects the incredible culture, great facilities, flexible work environment, and extensive benefits enjoyed by iQmetrix staff.

“Employers are trying to find their footing in unfamiliar territory,” says Richard Yerema, executive editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project at Mediacorp. “There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach for hybrid and remote work. Agility and willingness to learn from feedback and try something new is what differentiates this year’s winners.”

Marni Aubichon, Co-Lead of People and Culture at iQmetrix, said, “At iQmetrix, we’re extremely proud of our award-winning workplace culture, which is based on self-management principles that allow every employee to bring their authentic selves to their roles and thrive in their careers. We have a team of wonderful humans—our iQers—who are united by our shared values, with a focus on diversity and inclusion. We offer a fun place to work with stunning offices, amazing company getaways, and great social events. iQmetrix also prides itself on being a learning organization, with an extensive catalog of training and development programs as well as personal coaching available to all iQers. And we’re very happy to offer staff an awesome range of benefits, including trusted vacation days, and some health insurance coverages that are fairly unusual.”

One such unusual benefit is $25,000 coverage for fertility drugs, which iQmetrix recognized as a gap in its employee health benefits and introduced in 2017. The coverage has since been used to life-changing effect by at least one iQer. Sean Anderson, Client Engagement Lead for the Canadian and Specialty Market, shared his story about how he and his wife used this benefit shortly after it was introduced, which resulted in a wonderful baby girl named Scottie. Sean said, “This benefit was awesome, and something we didn’t expect. [The coverage] was perfectly timed for us, as fertility drugs are not cheap… We’re really grateful for the support. iQmetrix is a pretty cool place to work.”
