About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Legacy of Life Hawaii Utilizes Paragonix LUNGguard and LIVERguard for Donor Organs in First Transport from Hawaii to California

First use of Advanced Organ Preservation (AOP) technology in Hawaii allows donor lungs and liver to be successfully transported over 2300 miles

Paragonix Technologies, Inc. achieves a historic milestone in Hawaii with the first-ever utilization of its advanced lung preservation technology, the Paragonix LUNGguard™ system, which protected, monitored and geo-tracked a pair of donor lungs throughout its lengthy voyage to California. The donor organ recovery was managed by the expert staff of Legacy of Life Hawaii, a nonprofit Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) and the only organization in Hawaii federally designated to recover organs and tissue for transplant. Legacy of Life Hawaii works closely with island hospitals to procure and place donor organs for patients in need.

“We strive to offer new, innovative technologies to our transplant center partners in order to deliver the best possible outcomes for the patients we serve,” said Leonard Licina, CEO of Legacy of Life Hawaii. “Adopting this advanced preservation technology, as well as the additional clinical support offered by Paragonix, aids our mission to save and enhance lives through the recovery of organs for transplant.”

In addition to the use of Paragonix’s lung preservation technology, Legacy of Life recently adopted the LIVERguard™ Donor Liver Preservation System. As part of a second, more recent organ donation, a donor liver was protected using the Paragonix LIVERguard for the transport from Hawaii to a transplant center in California.

First of its kind, the Paragonix LUNGguard™ and LIVERguard devices are FDA-cleared donor lung and liver transportation. These devices present major advancements over the current ice-and-cooler practice traditionally used. The devices provides a rigid, protective outer structure designed for physical safety, and the system also incorporates proprietary cooling technology that ensures thermal protection for donor lungs and liver. All Paragonix devices allow users to access critical digital data that monitor and track the donor organ in real-time.

“It is those extreme and complex medical situations that inspire our team at Paragonix to go above-and-beyond for both recipient patients and donor patients. The successful transportation of a preserved donor organ from Legacy of Life Hawaii to California highlights the challenges Organ Procurement Organization and Transplant Centers must overcome in order to safely deliver the gift of a donor organ to an awaiting patient. We are immensely proud to play a part in these life-saving procedures,” said Dr. Lisa Anderson, President & CEO of Paragonix Technologies. “Our preservation technologies such as LUNGguard and LIVERguard are designed to help the transplant community confidently overcome these challenges by providing FDA-cleared preservation devices that offer real-time insights into the environmental conditions and location of the organ.” For more information about Paragonix, visit www.paragonix.com.
