For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on:

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Fredericksburg Independent School District Chooses PowerSchool Solutions to Go Digital and Optimize Recruiting and Hiring Process

Texas school district benefits from solutions designed to simplify and strengthen the teacher and substitute onboarding process

PowerSchool (NYSE: PWSC), the leading provider of cloud-based software for K-12 education in North America, today announced Fredericksburg Independent School District (FISD) in Gillespie County, Texas has implemented PowerSchool Unified Talent Employee Records, PowerSchool Unified Talent Applicant Tracking, and PowerSchool Unified Talent SmartFind Express. This suite of solutions enables the district to more easily post teacher and administrative job listings, collect applications, manage HR personnel records, and swiftly find qualified substitute teachers.

Prior to obtaining PowerSchool solutions, all employee new-hire onboarding materials at FISD were completed by hand and on paper. All FISD employee personnel files were also contained in paper records and stored in physical filing cabinets. The district was eager to veer away from their antiquated and time-consuming process.

“PowerSchool solutions have helped our Human Resources department become much more hands-on when onboarding new employees,” said Stacy Rush, Director of Human Resources, Fredericksburg Independent School District. “Now we have a digital view of the progress of new hire paperwork so we can see how far along a candidate may be and easily jump in to answer any questions. Prior to PowerSchool we had zero access to the progress of this paperwork, so the entire process is faster and more transparent for everyone now.”

After surveying other school districts about their own experiences with PowerSchool, FISD chose to move forward and began implementing PowerSchool solutions. Ultimately, moving from a paper-based system to advanced digital systems has given back more time to FISD staff members.

“The Fredericksburg Independent School District is gaining back time that was previously lost, so they can focus on more important issues,” said Maulik Datanwala, PowerSchool Chief Operating Officer. “This is a huge step for the district as moving from paper to digital can lead to better outcomes across the board, so it’s something we’re very proud to support the district with and we look forward to seeing their ongoing success.”

Fredericksburg Independent School District is a Texas public school district serving more than 3,000 students within its 758 square miles. Located in Gillespie County, Texas, FISD has a primary school, two elementary schools, one middle school, and two high schools. FISD offers a Pre-K through 12th grade curriculum across its six campuses spanning 758 square miles.
