About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

ERI’s John Shegerian Describes the Latest Data Privacy Challenges at 2022 Digital New York Summit

By: via Business Wire

John Shegerian, Chairman/CEO of ERI, the nation’s leading fully integrated IT and electronics asset disposition provider and cybersecurity-focused hardware destruction company, was a featured panelist last week at the City and State Digital New York Summit at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City.

City & State's 2022 Digital New York event gathered New York's information leaders in person from government and industry for a day-long, dynamic program of candid discussion and thought-provoking presentations on the innovative ideas being used to improve the delivery of services to both citizens and government agencies.

As part of a cross-disciplinary panel titled “Navigating Threats to Cyber and Physical Infrastructure,” Shegerian was joined on stage by Anna Mercado Clark, Partner, Phillips Lytle LLP; Phil Swain, CISO, Extreme Networks; and Patrick Scully, Director, Product Line Management, Ciena. The panel was moderated by Carlos Kizzee, CIS Stakeholder Engagement Operations, Center for Internet Security.

The experts shared the latest intel on concerns and best practices from varying perspectives about protecting privacy and managing data in the city of New York and beyond.

During the discussion, Shegerian described and shared insights on what types of private and potentially dangerous content can be easily accessed on discarded or even on “wiped” hardware. He also explained key concerns relating to the very real threat of hardware hacking during times of a global pandemic and beyond.

The expert panelists also discussed next steps in terms of data security in New York and best practices in terms of what companies can do to proactively provide solutions and work together with government to keep data safe.

“It has been an honor and privilege to share our insights with the audience at this important, timely summit,” said Shegerian. “It’s rewarding to share what we know and what we’ve learned with other thought leaders, discussing the urgent importance of data destruction, and protecting the privacy of people and businesses. Proper destruction of private data has become a critically important issue and these conversations at Digital NYC have been vital.”
