About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Take Charge of Your Future: New West Virginia Virtual Academy Now Enrolling

New Public-School Program Will Set Students on Path to Education Success

Enrollment is now open for the 2022-2023 school year at West Virginia Virtual Academy (WVVA), a new full-time, public-school program for students in grades K-10. Authorized by the West Virginia Professional Charter School Board, WVVA will serve students starting in the fall of this year with plans to grow by grade level each year to eventually serve grades K-12.

WVVA will provide students with a standards-aligned curriculum facilitated by West Virginia-certified teachers, from the safety of their homes or anywhere with an internet connection. And with the school’s unique approach, students can pair a solid academic foundation with hands-on learning experiences in career exploration.

According to labor market data from Indeed.com, more than 34,000 job openings posted in West Virginia in the last year require an education level less than a bachelor’s degree. And with 200k West Virginia residents carrying nearly $7 billion in student loan debt, WVVA is opening at a time when families need learning options that will strengthen students’ future educational prospects.

“When it comes to public education in West Virginia, students need options that will prepare them for personal and professional success,” said Brian Hoylman, WVVA Board President. “As an online school with a proven track record of success, WVVA is proud to introduce families to a learning environment that meets their needs today and sets them on a path for a bright future.”

WVVA’s core subjects will include opportunities for group projects, project-based learning, and one-on-one support from state-based staff in an environment designed for full-time online learning. Students can balance a full academic schedule along with extracurricular pursuits, internships, or other specialized needs. Whether their WVVA high school diploma leads them directly to the workplace, to the military, or to higher education, students will be equipped with the skills they need to get there.

WVVA’s curriculum is provided by Stride, Inc., an education leader with more than 20 years of experience delivering online education to students across the country. Stride has worked with schools and districts across all 50 states to help develop local solutions to meet personalized online and blended learning goals.
