Historic Building Reopens as Senior Housing Complex

12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4; 5909 St. Claude Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana

Home Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) have awarded $250,000 in Affordable Housing Program (AHP) funds to renovate a mixed-use facility and historical school building into 25 rental units for residents that are age 55 and older. The facility will also feature exhibition space dedicated to the history of New Orleans, Louisiana’s, public school desegregation and civil rights.

The funds were awarded to the Leona Tate Foundation for Change to renovate the former McDonogh 19 school building as the Tate Etienne and Prevost Center in New Orleans.

The media is encouraged to join organization and bank representatives at the grand opening at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at the Tate Etienne and Prevost Center at 5909 St. Claude Avenue in New Orleans, Louisiana.

AHP funds are intended to assist FHLB Dallas members in financing the purchase, construction and/or rehabilitation of owner-occupied, rental or transitional housing, and housing for homeless individuals. In 2021, FHLB Dallas awarded $18.5 million in subsidies to 26 affordable housing projects to help create or rehabilitate 2,113 housing units. For more information about AHP, visit fhlb.com/ahp.
