About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Vecima Enables Faster, Better Broadband for Roome Telecommunications Subscribers in Oregon

  • Vecima’s Entra™ Remote MACPHY solution provides a fast, efficient, and cost-effective step toward Roome Telecommunications’ future broadband network in Linn County, Oregon

  • Roome Telecommunications selected Vecima as its partner to comply with The Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019 in the U.S.

Vecima Networks Inc. (TSX: VCM) today announced the deployment of its Entra™ Remote MACPHY solution at Roome Telecommunications, Inc. ("RTI") a local telecommunications service provider in Linn County, Oregon. The equipment replaces a legacy solution, as directed by the U.S. Federal Government’s Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019, and provides RTI an efficient, cost-effective path to a broadband network.

Ahead of a July deadline for replacement, RTI and Vecima quickly completed the deployment with no service or business interruption. Vecima’s easy-to-deploy Remote MACPHY solution proved to be a straightforward and timely solution to help RTI replace the equipment. RTI was able to leverage funds available under the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) $1.9 billion Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Reimbursement Program.

“RTI is happy to have chosen Vecima as its partner vendor,” said RTI General Manager, Eric Votaw. “Vecima provided an affordable solution and gave RTI the necessary support and expertise to implement quickly. Remote MACPHY will enable RTI to meet its federal obligation and also give us clear path to offering faster and better broadband in Linn County.”

“In telecommunications, we often talk about scaling up, but it’s equally important to be able to scale down,” said Hy Huynh, Vecima’s Vice President of Sales for North America. “Local service providers like Roome and communities like Halsey need to address network security concerns too, and we’re thrilled to be helping them accomplish that.”

The Vecima Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) product portfolio, recently recognized by the Dell’Oro Group as the North America market share leader in Remote MACPHY and 10G EPON Remote OLT solutions, is deployed by operators around the world.

The Entra SC-2D is a remote MACPHY node with high downstream and upstream bandwidth, resilient and flexible design, and increased capacity enabling higher service tiers including gigabit services. It is centrally managed and controlled by the Entra Access Controller (EAC), providing simple and intuitive configuration and management of both DOCSIS and FTTX network access nodes. More information about Vecima’s Entra solution is available at vecima.com/solutions/distributed-access.

With full support for all next-generation cable access technologies, high-value legacy services, and proven industry leading interoperability, the networks of tomorrow are deployable today.
